Surviving Minnesota!

Or just when you thought you have heard every sound a chicken can make then they make a new one, like today with the video I shared.

Plus I love their song they sing when laying an egg

And Coffee, there isn't anything cuter than those babies!!!

The first group of chicken I had never seemed to purr or coo at night. This group does & it is such a comforting sound. I like going down at night just for that. The English girls, Speckled Sussex, seem to coo the most, but they are sweeties. My new coop, the West Wing, seems to have all the over achievers in it. Even without light, they can lay 10 eggs a day with 15 girls, & I know 2 aren't laying for sure. Eastside gang lays 7-10 a day with some extra morning light. (That coop just doesn't have any good windows.)

Coffee how many chicks did you get? Getting the new digs ready for them yet?

Well, I went & did it; I got a new dog. Rio is a 1 yr old Red Heeler. He'll take some time to get trained but one day he will be a good boy. Actually, he is now but has some quirks like chasing chickens, cats & cars.

This has been a weird winter. I had an alpaca get meningeal worms in January. He spent a week at the U of M & it still looks like I'll have to put him down next week. He can't get up on his own.

Rio is already a Disc Dog!

Aussie sorry to hear the alpaca isn't doing well, and Rio looks like he is settling in nicely.. He is a beautiful boy.. I got 2 Roos from Ralphie and 4 hens from the local feed and farm store. But 1 did not make it. I swore I would never get another BO but my granddaughter was asking where her ButterScotch was and talking about how it was her favorite chicken and the first chicken she ever held and she loved her pretty little chicken.. I didn't have the heart to tell her I cut its head off then I would've been the worst grandma in the world. So I went and got 2 in the hopes 1 would survive.. Lol..

Oh man aussiegal!!

Which alpaca is it? I love them all! When I deleted photos off me phone, I even made sure I kept the one of Judy and the alpaca. They are such neat animals.

The new pup is a cutie. Hours and hours of fun work getting him to tow the line ahead.

Kloppers Your question has a ton of answers. There is no way I could pick out just one thing.

Maybe it is the god-complex they instil in me. They live, die, eat, drink, run free and almost everything else when I want them to!

They run to my feet to worship me, they give me offerings (eggs). If they offend me they pay with their lives and I eat their flesh.

And for all the god-complex stuff, they humble me, when I am cleaning their pens, tending to their wounds or their babies.

Most of you will not understand this, but if I am ever get a swelled head, I have Ethel, (turkey hen) that will come over stand toe to toe at me, and look up. Then let me have a 10 minute verbal barrage of everything I did wrong, everyway I have wronged her and what I should do different. After it is all over, she will let me hold her and she allows me to groom and pet her for my pleasure. BTW She lets me know it is her letting me pet her.

Oh,,, and I forgot,

That CX hen that I thought I would lose, I did. She was dead in the coop last night.

I have 30 creamette eggs going in the bator today, 9 hatching and order for almost 50 hens.... Someone is not going to be getting a hen today.

I have 7 toad eggs going in today. None hatching. (the going in numbers might change depending on how many I get this morning.

Ethel! She's a character! Funny how turkeys feel entitled enough to offer their opinions on things! Mine are fashion critics. Wear something they haven't seen before....they chat about it and eventually one will tug on it or peck at it.
