Surviving Minnesota!

Mornin'peeps,

Ralphie, any new babies?

psladky, ouch. Hate that. Brrrrrr.

No babies. no pips. no noise, no rocking. I removed the eggs to another incubator when the temp spiked, I have been running the farm innovator empty and the temp as remained constant since then.

I bought a cheap thermostat shut off a few years ago. I used it to control heat in my brooders. The problem was the unit was the probe. it had no external probe. I am going to try and find a temp limiting one with a probe and hook all my cheap incubators through it. I had 30 some eggs in this hatch, if the temp spiked and dropped, I would not have noticed it unless I was actually near the thermometer. A 30 dollar limiter would have paid for itself.

I am very gun shy of that incubator to even use as a hatcher right now.

I have -8 right now. I did not think to look when we got up. I needed coffee first.

Memphis mentioned the turkey DNA stuff I am studying. Are any of you aware of Turkey Parthenogenesis? I have been reading some things and there are some that think Chickens may be capable of it also. The mechanics of it, and what sets it in motion is not completely understood, or if it is, it is just not understood by me yet. I find that amazing!

It is so rare, it must be closing into what I would call a miracle!

Ralphie-any update on that fox in your hen house?? Sorry about your last batch of eggs. That really sucks!!

Still a balmy -14 here at 8:15.

Memphis- good luck with your impending threat of ice and snow!!

Yeah he seems to be doing well. At first there was some nursing issues. He wasn't drinking off the 2 front teats. She had gotten very engorged so they milked them down and now all seem to be going well. They both look like happy, bouncing calves!!

That can happen in snakes too! I read about a snake that has done it several times at a university. I will have to look for that article I read....

Here it is!
