Surviving Minnesota!

Jerry,, It's I have a question time.

I was told by one of the people that bought creamettes, Rees line do not have the recessive white gene. Have you ever heard that? BC said our CLB's were Rees. and I sure have white ones is why I ask..

Found a family portrait today as I was cleaning up.

I thought there were too many dogs and not enough bunnies (people and poultry are accurate, though!), but she had also drawn the ram wethers and told me we don't count the baby animals, just the breeders. This kid always gives me a laugh.

Also, I'm getting a representative egg from all the girls except the one or two Olive Eggers that I *think* I made last year. No silkie or guinea eggs yet, either.

I should really get a white egg layer, but I wasn't terribly impressed with the leghorns I had a couple years ago. Too flighty and it seems like my other birds lay just as well as they did. My silkies lay almost a pink tinted egg.

And I'll just leave this here.

It's from last year, of course.

Jerry, have you decided when you are coming North yet? When you do will you drive straight through, or might you stop to visit Mike Gilbert?

I may have read it but not sure . I got mine from Heidi before she got the Rees line . I think she said lines C and D . I put a cockerel in the pen hoping the white would show up . Time will tell .

I got her last ones, So those would be Rees. Unless a Rees bred with another of hers.. Interesting..

Well, you may not go to 'town' - maybe stay out in the farm country which makes perfect sense. I am not kidding - for me to come from here to there was kinds of a surprise to see how very small the town is. Nice place though. He likes it there. He works in Fargo.

Where are you at dandelioness? I am in elk river. This is my (our) first time raising chickens so the poor things are the teachers. I was thinking of putting in a 50 watt ceramic heater
way up high in the coop. Just to basically warm it a bit at night and then i will have to pull that slowly too in the next few weeks. I have all hens. 2 amaracauna's, 2 gold lace wyandottes, and 2 buff orpingtons. I would say they are 90% feathered out at 5 ish weeks. They have some down yet around their neck and bellys but have full feathers. They are about the size of a blue jay now. Wow they seem to be growing as we speak. lol

Here is Jill Rees' web page. There's a lot of White on those award winning Creamettes and Creamers. gorgeous.http://www.jillscreamlegbars.co.uk/#

And these were mine from Heidi:

and then their hatched chicks from eggs during their quarantine (before drive up window dates with Rog)
