Ralphie- why did you use conditioner? Maybe that would work against fluffing. Just a thought.

Poor little one! Seems odd that it wouldn't clean and dry fluffy, sorry I know nothingI have a chick that was a eggsarean birth. It was all dried out in the shell, after the Eggsarean birth it is doing great except the feathers/fluff are stuck to its body and do not fluff out. I have it in the hatcher and am afraid to move it to the brooder because of the lack of fluff. I have used shampoo and conditioner to try and get it to fluff. It is not fluffing. Any ideas?? I am going to post this to the chick emergencies too, but I trust you guys more....![]()

Bogtown- what a stinker!! What do you think you will do or how to break her of that habit??
I'm going to cut a switch and stalk her. I want to leave the doors open for free ranging. That's just the way I am. But another solution would be to close them. She has been going back down to the coop about 20-30 minutes after the initial morning chores are done: Long enough for the hens to eat their kitchen scraps and no harm no foul...or so I thought smelling around the run. The chickens unharmed. All of t hem getting used to each other. Well it seems she is finding bonus calories in the nest box...I'm sure of it. Ugh. ugh. ugh. no wonder Lucy was making her trek up here.Bogtown- what a stinker!! What do you think you will do or how to break her of that habit??
I love that idea!!!!I suggest that she gets her own nest box and has to lay an egg before she gets to come back into the house. She is probably really mad for getting cut open this past week.
Ralphie I read a bit and it seems that the albumin has dried on your chick. They say try a soft toothe brush to start flaking up the albumin. Sounds tedious detailed work but might save her. Happens with some eggcesareans and humidity dropping too fast on the chick. Idk... Albumin is 80-90% water you'd think water would dissolve it off.
I have a friggin egg eater. I despise her right now.
So the last two days the water fount has been tipped over in the coop. Weird. But it sits in the corner semi blocking a nest box. I had just thought things were heating up in the coop-- Rog chasing hens before I opened the pop door.
The a-ha moment came when I spotted an egg in the free range nest box today. As I noted it I went down to coop first so I wouldn't crack it with my chores. Well the beast noted it as well. After chores I went to the free range nest box and found Lucy's precious egg disappeared. This dog is a huge pain in my backside. I think she's been doing this a while. I think I had a hen on the chopping block for this spring because of the dog!!!
Grrrrrrrr!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
you could try rubbing hot sauce on an egg and putting it in the nest box for her to find. get her to have negative associations with eggs?I'm going to cut a switch and stalk her. This is a loved dog. but she requires discipline on this one. And I need to get on Aussie's exercise plan with her too. That is obvious. I think if we lived on a busy road she would chase cars. I had a nut case in the car on the way down to the vet when we'd pass cars. And even half drugged with anesthesia on the way home. She growled and barked and climbed the seats seeing other cars. She's just so un-labrador like. She is not easy.
