Surviving Minnesota!

Well the chicken coop at the new farm is turning out really really nice super proud of it. Had a little accident yesterday I had a friend helping me put up the inside walls and he was holding up as sheet of plywood And as I bent down to get more screws the board slipped and hit the back of my neck just like a guillotine and out like a light I went. Woke up was dizzy eyes blurry and my ears were ringing. So off to the ER they made me go. All is good big lump scratch down the back of my neck soreness some bruised tendons nothings broke but I have to stay in bed today. Guess I'm taking a break. OMG just looking out the window and I seen my strawberry walk by all know she must not of made it into the chicken coop last night I better go get her poor thing.

Ralphie, are you keeping a running tabulation of the number of chicks you are hatching? If so it is probably not best to allow Judy to see the numbers.
Have you had a hatch from the GQF and how has it worked if so?
Although it is above freezing here this morning, it is a gray ugly day at this point. As you well know the Duluth area can have a lot of these days with high humidity and a breeze off the lake.
The Palm trees on Park Point are not doing too well. I think I attempted to plant them there a little early, maybe 100 years early.

My palms and Banana's are showing a little frost burn on the edges so it might be too early for you to plant them.

I have not kept track of the number of birds I have hatched. It is quite a few so far, I have about 20 outside and 20 inside that I am keeping, most being CLB roosters that will become soup of small fryers. I have about 10-15 pullets which will be my next year breeders. I have Andy outside now, I still think he will be my show rooster if I show. He has the best tail position and a nice comb. His color is not going to get me a win though, as Jerry explained, I have no "outside" blood in mine. The hens should do well though.

I have had 2-3 hatches out of the GQF. I love it thank you so much for it. Humidity is a breeze in it. The temps hold tight on it. I did crank it up about half a degree to try and get earlier hatch and end some of the staggering of the hatch. I move the eggs on day 18 or 19 to the old foam incubators for hatching. That way I do not have to disturb the eggs incubating.

My hatch rate has picked up, I am not sure if that is the GQF or spring coming and rooster getting more fertile.

My poor strawberry was out all night. Atleast she is dry so she wasn't out in the rain. I picked her up and put her in coop with the other girls. Checked on all babies since I was out there and one of the little was didn't make it overnight . It is the same one that I had to wash her butt everyday because it was ALWAYS pasty,. So guess that might be a good things
