Surviving Minnesota!

My brahma bantam roo, Pumpkin, attacked me because I was trying to catch one of the hens. Usually I kick him or grab him, this time I had a stick in my hand. So I whacked him with the stick a little too hard. On the head. He fell over flapping on the ground, I picked him up and he couldn't hold his head up. I thought he was going to die. I took him inside crying and told mom. By the time I was done talking to her he seemed okay so I put him down to see if he could stand, he did, even walked away from us. So I took him in the coop and he is having alone time, the girls seem lost without him (they are outside).

I feel so bad

Please pray for him. I think he has a concussion. The stick was as big around as my thumb.

Is he opening his eye at all? Is he acting normal? I hope he does okay!

does anyone on here watch dancing with the stars? my dearest wife has become an avid fan and i usually watch along. anyways, there is one of the stars that is a football player from denver. Turns out he is an avid chicken keeper with a degree in poultry science and he even has a chicken tattoo on his leg! how cool is that?

Violetsfeathers that is tough to see what happened with your roo there. You'll have to learn how to use that stick. Most of the time you just push and herd the birds away from you with the stick and go about your usual business. Or catch then in the fluff a bit and lift them, let them roll. Never a strike to the head unless you want dinner on the table. I hope he comes out of it. If you're keeping him time to get on some pages and learn how to take care of his mending needs.

I for one would feel to see if his skull is fractured and if not get some ice on that eye.

I don't usually have a stick with me and I wasn't aiming for his head :( how can you tell if their skull is fractured? I think he has a concussion, can you get a concussion without getting knocked out?

Very cool when these guys can share their productive lives beyond the field!
Once in a while, a guy like this comes up and restores my faith in humanity.
