Surviving Minnesota!

Welcome other Nodak'er!

Please put a jar of honey on a balloon and let the wind bring it to me. If it misses me, Ivie will get it and return it to me....

Jerry I have a question for you. Do you think the white sports will breed true (in my CLB's) There is a discussion about it on https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/509483/cream-legbars/10030#post_16775439

A guy quotes a blog saying the don't. I tend to disagree and think they will have to breed true if bred to each other. if this guys argument is correct it makes no sense that I am getting them as regularly as I am.

Thanks in advance.
They will breed true . The chick color and auto sexing is the variable . You must have a down color that will show the spot . There is a lot of misinformation on that thread . They are hard to convince .

I decided to join this thread since the ND one is super slow! Even though I live closer to Montana..
Welcome!!!

Leave eggs in her nest . Natures way is for a hen to lay a clutch of eggs and then go broody .
We are doing that know, but maybe 12 eggs isn't enough to her? She hasn't laid since we put in the eggs, but hopefully she will today and then notice them all under her.

Pumpkins face is all better!

I cleaned the coop yesterday, gotta love the smell of fresh bedding.

That's wonderful, he looks really good! Could we see a picture of his whole body? The coop looks lovely, and your hens are beautiful as well!

The other thing I have heard is have a bunch of chicks in the area, the sound is suppose to bring on the mommy hormones.

Also I think fake eggs will help too. They become broody by the chest feathers being stimulated by eggs under them... Or bring them here, last year I had no broodies until July. This year everyone wants to go broody.
If I had chicks, I wouldn't want her to be broody.

She goes broody every other year on her own when noone wanted her to, I suppose she will eventually. Do you think dyed easter eggs would scare her?

I am a North Dakotan, but someone came on the North Dakota Site and said I could come here and chat with everyone.
I live on a 17 acre farm raising chickens and beekeeping.
Does anyone else have bees and collect honey?
Welcome! I don't have any bees, but it sounds fun! Do your chickens ever try to eat the honey or bees?

My dog eats bees. He's an idiot. Then, half his face swells and I have to medicate him with a giant amount of Benadryl. It's kind of nice sometimes since he's pretty sleepy for a day or two after that.

What kind of chickens to you have?

I have 50 chickens of different breeds
Buff Orpintons
Barred Rocks
Rhode Island Reds
Silver Laced Wyandottes
Ameraucaunas
White Leghorns

I am going to get 25 birds May 11

Here he is .

I have been outside potting up raspberry plants for the lake property . Using weed free potting mix . Did a little bench grafting and have more to do . I will keep these indoors for warmth . Helps them heal . I will plant them out in a couple of weeks . Rootstocks should come tomorrow . So more grafting to come . Today is mulberry and pears for wildlife plantings .

Thanks,

The autosexing is hard to near impossible. Some I see a little yellower spot others nothing only time will tell. But if I could get a nice flock of white crested blue egg laying birds, I could live without the auto sexing.. I know that would drive people on that thread nuts!
