Surviving Minnesota!

Kloppers I did too much yesterday so I am drinking coffee and enjoying the morning. Besides I had people to call to come and get their chicks. It is not raining here, We only allow rain at night here in the Banana Belt, we do not want our perfect days ruined.

Speaking of chicks here is the one pen full.

These are the SS and EE. 2 are SS the rest are EE's The singles are of my "stars"....

I know it is a lot of pictures but the cuteness can not be resisted!

Oh I am sure that is not true... Just wait to the real boys start coming around your home, and your Dad takes a real interest in cleaning his guns....

My daughter told me recently she did not have many dates In High School because the boys were all afraid of me. She said between my size and the Maroon Car I drove everyday and the little gun I carried they would rather just meet her someplace than actually date her...

I feel I did my job correctly as a Father....
For me it is that everyone makes fun of me because I am the only one in the small town that raises chickens, so every time I ask a girl out on a date, they say no because people make fun of me. Take today for example, I was in the newspaper 2 weeks ago for raising chickens, and my grandma, she had good intentions, she bought me a t-shirt that states, "Chickens Make Me Happy", to wear at the interview, but it didn't come in until yesterday and she made me wear it today, so everyone in my grade, 9th grade, made fun of me for it.

Its all okay and none of it will matter when you are old like some of us. It creates a story to tell and laugh about. You love chickens. that is how I read that because I LOVE CHICKENS too!

Update on SC. Not good. Her neck hangs lower now than before (after all those vitamins and body massages and personal feedings) and she does not seem to be able to drink unless I straighten her up and hand water her. I am afraid she is dying sometimes when I look at her and I wonder if I should keep on prolonging her state of being. I do not want her to ever go through the stress of laying an egg and her right leg and foot is very crippled. I guess I just answered my thoughts about 'is this good for her?'

I am so sorry Ivie, I wish I had just had the guts to cull her at hatch..

Igor has moved outside, I watched her yesterday and she walks a little funny with her crooked neck but seems to do ok, I do wonder what will happen at egg laying time though.

That stinks but they will learn when they get older.

BTW Sorry I read it as you are a girl. Ooopsy...

My family just built a new chicken coop but it is not quite done yet, according to my dad, the chicken coop needs to have a lot more work done to it, even though all we need to do is insulate it. After we finish the coop, we are moving all the chickens, into that coop and burning the old coop because it is really nasty. The floor is starting to break

Love the pictures. Are they all sold?

Rainy weather must have everyone inside today! We are going to have lakes on our property by the end of the day as the puddles grow.

Believe it or not most of my flock doesn't mind going out in the rain as long as it isn't too windy or a down pour. I see them splashing about in puddles all the time, plus chasing down the worms.

As long as we are talking plants, my tomatoes are growing so well! I started working on repotting them last night. right now they are in the little plugs that come flat, then you add water and they are about 1"across and 2" tall. The roots are starting to poke out the sides so they are getting upgraded to 4" pots. They will be huge by the time I take them to the market in May. I am having great luck with my seedling 'chamber' I was worried about leggy plants but haven't had issues!

I'm going to do tomatoes this year, but never got seeds started. I'm gonna have to fork over some money for a started plant. Do the chickens get in your garden? I had to kick them out of my hostas the other day.
