Surviving Minnesota!

My family puts a fence around the tomato garden but everything else wasn't fenced in. M mom and I started our garden plants way to early so they are growing way too fast and my mom put all of them in my room so my room smell like a garden and it is really bright

7 days and counting........Our first batch of layer chics will be arriving. (As well as 10 Rainbows we will be raising for my FIL to smoke.) Getting excited.....but a little nervous after seeing Ivie's issue with a dominant rooster. Coop floor needs to swept and covered with shavings then brooder pool will be set in place this weekend. A big Thank you to my husband and everyone on this site for their expertise.....hopefully they are similar to raising meat birds.

We tried Ralphie. I guess there is a reason chickeners do not take the time to try to correct this situation. It works for some. I have not found the solution yet for the cure. Remember, we started her right away. I will get a picture back to you of the two roos. Today I am exhausted and thought of 'culling' (I like that word) her and of using the two roos for chicken soup just isn't doing much to strengthen me. BUCK UP LORI! Self talk.

I know what you mean, I just like to give them every chance. I can always cull later or God can cull them for me. It is hard to reverse a cull if it would have worked out. Look at Igor, she is doing pretty darn good and she was in about the same shape SC was.

I really appreciate everything you have done for SC and you taught Judy how to put those splint things on, that is one good thing that came out of SC's short life.

Ralph I have a question. Do u have any started Creamers that would be available? I am going to Minnies in 2-3 weeks and will be driving right passed u...

ETA I am looking for something that wont need a heat lamp like the Buckeyes. I am going to toss my Broody Cochins in with the Buckeyes just to be safe. My Cochins adopt chicks of any age and dont give the chicks a choice.

Did I ever tell u all that one time I had a batch of 4 week old chicks go missing? There was only 5 of the little guys left. I went out to do chores one morning and all my chicks were gone! And do u know where I found them? Free ranging the yard with my broody BA and her babies! I never thought chicks would take to a hen when they were that old but they did! After that I had to put a cover on my brooder because it wasnt that tall and I didnt want the next batch to escape!
