Surviving Minnesota!

Spent a couple hours looking for morels . Nothing . Knee told me to quit . Brought back a piece of pheasant back mushroom . Had that with asparagus , bacon and cheese sauce for lunch .

Oh, Two things I forgot, Those eggs are not retouched, but they do not seem as deep a blue when not laid on those chips, I do not want anyone thinking my EE will give you that exact shade of blue. The background really makes a difference as BC said yesterday about the color wheel thing I know nothing about. And Andy, my avatar picture. I thought you should see what he looks like "yesterday". I am still planning to enter him in a couple shows this year, if I can find a decent set of hens for him. He is a little darker than I want, but not bad. The lighting is bad in the picture. Also, I need to check his comb, I never noticed when I look at them but in the picture it appears a tad wavy, I can't have that. There is another roo from his class that is lighter and I have been going back and forth on him. I need Jerry to stop by here on his way north to tell me what to do. Or to start over.
Andy is gorgeous. I love his defined barring. At the Brainerd hospital to re fasten a patellar ligament back to DH's shin bone.

What breed is he...I'm a sucker for barring and his barring is beautiful....or is it handsome due to being a male?

I'll jump into help answer. He's a cream legbar or for short a 'Creamer'.

I am a failure!

My hatch is fast moving air into a vacuum cleaner.....

The last 1202 I bought failed me. I have had trouble with moisture level in it. The trays were homemade, they were too wide and too high. The scraped the sides of the cabinet when turning. I think that caused the turner to fail. I did not notice until just before "lockdown". I took the eggs out of it and put them in the 1202 I got from EJB.

the 40-50 turkey eggs had 5 live hatches. 2 are now dead one will be soon. They simply have to energy and are not doing well. 2 never did walk. I am estimating a 4% hatch rate. I am not going to Carlton today. We had planned too, but I am not selling inferior birds. These are going to live here until I know they are fine.

The chicks are hatching now and not doing so great either. I have them in foam hatchers now. I have ordered the moisture kits. a new turner motor and new trays.

The last 1202 I got was a LOT and I mean a LOT more money than the one I got from EJB, and not 1/4th as good.... Thanks Again EJB!

My good toad eggs and PC eggs were in this lot, they are lost now...

Speaking of losing..

Yesterday I pulled my truck rear wheel bearings out. I needed to buy a "special tool" to do it. $55 for a stupid socket with 4 prongs on it! Without it I was screwed. The whole time I was pulling it apart. I kept think, "boy, this is tight for a bad bearing" I found nothing out of the ordinary. Even the bearings themselves look like new when I got them out. The only thing I saw was the emergency brake was worn and rusty.

I went back and looked at the inside of the rotors and I could see rust and heat distortion from the emergency brake. I am now guessing the emergency brake was advancing and never releasing. I have oiled the movement points up and backed it off. I hope that fixes it. I still need to put in new bearings as I have the old ones out and will not put old bearings back in. It is not a complete loss though as the only way to fix the emergency brake is to pull the hub, meaning taking the bearings out. Who ever thought up this idea?

Anyways, today has to be better than yesterday?? Oh, and does anyone want to buy an elderly Mother? I cannot go into how trying she was yesterday. I would just start drinking if I did.

Good Morning Ralphie, Sorry you had a crappy day!! that's a horrible hatch. Very sad. Today will be better. Isn't mother's day coming up soon? You'd have to wait at least several weeks after to sell her.

I would prefer selling her before Mother's day..

We are having a "family" reunion....(YEAH, I get to see people that happen to share my DNA that I really have nothing else in common with) on the 15th. Yes, opening of fishing season! WHO in their right mind would have a reunion of fishing opener???????

The answer is self evident, NO ONE!!!

But Mom. planned one that weekend. But she said it is no big deal she doesn't fish much anyways! (Always about her!!!)..

I suggested we go to the meat market in Isanti for Hot dogs they have super hot dogs there.

She said "how much our they?"

I said, "kind of expensive around 6 and 1/2 a pound".

Her response, " No, WAY!, I can get some for 99 cents a pound".

Me: " but no one will eat them they are so bad."

Her: "well, they can go hungry then".

I am going to buy some in Isanti and sell them at a exorbitant price to the relatives! Otherwise, I can't wait to ruin a fishing opener, eating hot dogs while listening to my liberal college professor brother expound the virtues of socialism*.... Gonna be a great weekend..

SO now you know why I need to sell Mom fast! Fire sale prices even.
