Surviving Minnesota!

I walked around Saturday looking for morels and only found 3 of those shreks ear thingies. Blackish brown? I did not pick as I did not know them as edible. I really need to take a mushroom class I guess.

Kloppers in western ND there are some wayside rests with bison roaming freely around the buildings. Needless to say one potty break on my way to Montana , there was a bull grazing near the entrance of the ladies' . I pulled back out and headed to a different spot to pee. Scary! I was a little miffed that they would allow such a thing for security of the people. There were signs too --to be beware. Lol. Nodakers.... Yeah some people are not that smart. I think there is a Facebook page called stupid people of Yellowstone. Some interesting wildlife choices people make...

Good morning

I'm on the bus doing nothing so I decided right now would be a perfect time to write this.

Woke up 10 minutes late this morning, so I decided that I would just put feed in the stansion bucket and Dakota could eat the oats later. And she got distracted by some of the hay outside the calf warmer and neither my dad or I felt like taking 15 minutes just to get her away from the hay into the stansion

Yesterday she had het first time in the stansion. When we first got her in the barn she smelled everywhere, then I poured some oats into the stansion bucket and she came over. She wasn't sure about sticking her head in the stansion at first, but she did it. My dad just held it closed rather then locking it just in case she got scared, while she was eating I went back to her and touched her bag and tits. She got annoyed when we wouldn't let her out when she finished the oats, but such is life. It took her a few tries to figure out that she needed to back out of the stansion.

The place we got her from has a robotic milker, so someone touching her bag, and her head being held rather then her whole body was definitely different, but she did really well.

My broody is still sitting on the four eggs, and hopefully more then half them will be hens.
Buckbeaks leg is doing better, not so much of a limp anymore.

I have 2 Broody Black Swedish ducks, they were both broody last year, and one of them hatched out 4 eggs. The other left the nest half way through. Hopefully I can keep them from hatching out ducklings until I sell them or butcher them.

And I have a JH track meet today and a Varsity tomorrow. We're leaving at 12:00 today a d 10:45 tomorrow, so I am going to get an overload of homework for this week. And I have a meet on Friday and we're leaving at 11:00

Hey Erli, Ed, Ralphie and Jerry: DH's surgery was uneventful and we left the hospital at 9:00pm. Home at 10:30 after quick stop at target. Long day/ night.

They anchored his tendon back to his knee cap. He was dancing last Friday and slipped on some water on the floor. And hit the floor. The tendon popped right away.
He wasn't even that juiced up on brewskis. I was home with the teenagers at the time-- reffing.

Anyways he can't shower for 5-7 days. Just PTAs. Then his immobility brace stays on for 3 weeks. Unless he showers. And then it will be adjusted with a slight bend in PT. That new brace will be 8 weeks. He has not had a wink of sleep all last night. The Vicodin amps him up. But he looks tired. His brace has a bar that digs into his calf. All sorts of complaints but I'm glad he's home and were on the road to recovery.

Oh man, good luck with everything! So much for whoopin' it up on the dance floor.

Hey all!

I was gone all weekend camping expecting to come home and find hundreds of posts! only 23? must have been busy!

We went to Mineopa State Park by Mankato. beautiful park with the added bonus that they integrated a small bison herd there last year from the Blue Mounds state park herd. ANND 3 of them just had calves this week! so cool to see! Weather was nice except for saturday afternoon it rained on and off. I also found a small area covered with Morel mushrooms while we were hiking. I didnt pick any as i had no idea if they were for sure morels but 99% sure. also i dont know how to prepare them. another time though!

Very cool! Look like a good time! I'll have to drag the family that way sometime soon.

I am looking for call duck hens only right now. Or hatching eggs

If you're willing to look outside local, Al's Quackery sells Call Duck hatching eggs, ducklings, and occasionally breeding pairs, hens, or drakes. His shipping rates are reasonable (He's in Maine) and he's really just a cool guy. I've gone to him with many questions from incubating to just chatting about waterfowl. He's on FB, too.

I've always been shy towards shipped eggs, but I wouldn't hesitate going through him myself.

The feed store I go to also has Call Ducks every now and then and hatching eggs. You could give them a call. Anoka Ramsey Farm & Garden. They update their inventory frequently on FB.

We need a surviving MN mushroom class.....I would drive a LONG ways to attend one with other chicken people..

I bet after seeing the bull bison by the outhouse you might have had to find another place to pee,,,,BUT I bet all need to Poop was gone from you.. Did you have have clean undies with?

I'm not a huge fan of mushrooms, but I'll adventure out and look for Asparagus. There's a big raspberry patch a few miles into the woods near my Grandpa's cabin. I always enjoy getting fresh raspberries....especially if I beat the bears to it.

We went out of town for the night Saturday and I came home to one less Khaki Campbell duckling. And, of course, the one time I leave them in there overnight because we'll be gone. I usually just let them spend the day in there and keep them in the garage overnight. At first I thought @duluthralphie came to my house and took my duckling for his own, but then I saw the cage hacking job. I still can't figure out what got in there. There was no fur left on the wire ends and only a little blood. No feathers or body parts anywhere. No indication of digging, either. The other two ducklings are fine - not a scratch on them. I keep thinking a stray cat because of the small opening and the duck was dragged off, but I feel there would have been cat hair left behind. A weasel would have killed all of the ducklings. So would most other predators that could get in there. No idea.....

That mushroom class would be fun...wouldn't it? There's a guy from Minneapolis that makes quite the business of it.
4 chicks have hatched, 3 more eggs to go hopefully they will hatch!
