Surviving Minnesota!

1000

This was Wednesday afternoon. My flock stretched their legs a bit. Holly doing the Flamingo and Roger was stuck in the snow and seemingly needing the Food Lady's help. All were escorted back with spinach and BOSS to toss in the run. Fun to see them out and giving it a whirl though.

@duluthralphie I had a rude awakening tonight when i realized that I have no experience in backing up a 2 axle trailer! I can back our 21ft camper around with the best of them, but i was nearly helpless haha. I made about 3 maneuvers and then i realized that the silly thing is light enough for me to push it as far as i needed to :) the snow on the ground wasnt helping my cause with backing up either

This is nothing to be ashamed of, very few people can back up a 4 wheel wagon very far or very well. I grew up on a farm and have no trouble backing a two wheel trailer. Even those with short axis, I am not an expert but I get it done.

HOWEVER. A four wheel / 2 axil wagon is more luck than anything else when backing it up for me, I surely cannot claim I can do it.. I have an uncle that was a truck /semi trailer driver his entire life. He could never back up the 2 axil trailers.

I always thought there should be a way to make the drawbar solid so it could not turn at the pin, so we could have control over the front trailer axil.

Good morning everyone. I am tired... My sister, grandpa, brother and I went to Fargo yesterday at 3 pm and didnt get home till 11 pm. We went to all the outdoors stores like scheels and Mills Fleet farm and then went to the best movie ever!!! The Revenant...

EJB, I have the incubator up and running, well actually down in the basement and running. Judy is so happy I moved it out of the hallway.

I have a question. I put thermometers in it. on the shelf where the plastic dish sits it reads right at 99.5.

When I put the thermometers in the middle shelf it drops down to 98.2.

I printed out and read the instructions, put they are not all that clear.

Should I try to adjust the wafer (front) to raise the temp a bit?

Do I put water in that plastic pan or should I put a sponge in it and just drop a bit in it every day?

I see there are vents in the back, you have tape on them but the tape fell off the cabinet. Should I re-tape them shut, partially open or remove tape?

I am sure I will have more questions.

They show an optional constant humidity device, looks lie just a bucket with a hose running into the incubator. How in the world does the bucket no just empty into the incubator? I did not get one of these just looking at it and thinking about it..

And on a similar note my eggs should hatch tomorrow in my small hatcher. No peeps that I can hear, of course my hearing is terrible, and not pips in the eggs yet.

Does anyone have experience with burning off pastures? Since we are considering raising pigs on the back pasture that is grown almost waist high I am thinking I might burn it off this spring. That would also open it up for more space for the chickens to roam back there. I have been reading up on it and probably will see if the local extension office has anything to offer but if anyone has experience to share....

Sorry can't help you.

I wish I could, I would burn ours off. We are not allowed to have running fires here. I did burn off the area in front of my shed, but I made sure it was a walking fire

. It was a cloudy hazy day with a light drizzle and I had my fingers crossed no one would see the smoke.

The refuge burns off thousands of acres all around me but I cannot burn off 3 acres, Do I sound bitter?

I would love to burn the sandburs off.

Good luck on your burn!

We have 2 inches of snow. The whole city is closed!

I do not even plow with only 2 inches, many time I just pack it down by driving on it.

You southerners are so much fun to watch!!

I find it so unfair, you governors put in for a national emergency and get federal funds when you get 2 inches of snow, we get a blizzard with 18 inches or more and get nothing....

I do not envy the snow over the ice though, that is ugly stuff.

Time to just sit back and watch you guys...
