Surviving Minnesota!

Highlanders are such cool cows!

I love the way they look, I have no idea what they are like, personality wise. I have never sat down and talked to one. I have talked to many Herefords. They are not bad cow, but can be opinionated once in a while and refuse to do what you want them too.
Like have her calf. :)

I am a liar again. I had said I was not going to use artificial lights on all my hens. I now have lights on timers on every hen. If you work for an insurance company, the fire inspectors or the electrical inspectors offices, please disregard this.

I have extension cords everywhere! But I did get lights to everyone. Even Bert Jr and King Georges girls

When I put the light into Bert's coop, they all had to come into the coop and talk about what I was doing. They really chattered about it. Most thought it was Ok, Others thought it was upsetting the ecosystem. I put the timer on Berts twice a day. 4 am until 8 am and then 5-7 pm. There are a couple of his girls that want to sit outside I thought the light being on at dusk might lure them inside.

I have all the turkey hens in the Creamette coop and pen, to keep them safe from the boys. I hope they do not start laying eggs yet. I am building new coops and breeding pens for them. I should have 2 coops done tomorrow, but those are going to Ed and the PC's and Blackie and the BA's.

I am thinking of putting a pen within a pen using the vacant turkey house as a coop for Ethel and JJ and just giving them a small pen to roam around. JJ is limping tonight, I think fighting with the teenagers is too rough on him.

That's my day..

These are my girls. Norma Jean the highlander and Buttercup the highlander/herford.

I love your cows!

I'd get Highlanders if I could have cows, my neighbor has some.

So the 2 teats you see closest to us are the 2 extra teats.

She has looked like this for days now. And the swelling has been like this for over a week, if not longer. This is the same girl I got undercarriage shots of before. The other Hereford seems to be about 5 days behind this one as far as filling/swelling.

Have you tried to bump the calf?

What did you feel? Where is the head?

Besides fidgeting is she "normal"?

Have you taken her temperature?

Is her milk in?

The udder looks extremely small for the way her butt looks....
