Surviving Minnesota!

Quiet day today for sure! I'm taking tomorrow off for a nice long weekend and hope to take advantage of the warmer weather.

Need to scoop out one coop again. Those chickens sit inside all day and poo and poo and poo!

On the bright side I found a new egg customer today. He is on some special low carb, high protein diet and eats 5-6 eggs a day! Cha ching Cha Ching!!!!!

I had one of them for about 2 months. then he stopped to diet!! I think everyone should be on that diet. Except me of course.

His diet has different phases, something to do with retraining your guts to process whole foods?? Anyways even if he only buys eggs in bulk for a few months that will get us into farmers market season almost so that is good for us!

It's good to see you back with us where you belong. Bummer about all the bad things, my condolences and best wishes and all the stuff.

How old are the chicks you are putting outside?

I have these 4 orphans that no one has "WON" yet. I am wondering if I put them with that BA I have that has an overly active mothering gene would broody up and take them. Of course, that would mean she would have to stop mothering her 8 month old Guineas...Yeah she still mothers them.. It is just weird.

Weirder yet they allow it!

Thanks. :) The chicks are 3 months old, and over half grown. They are already outside though, they are the ones I have been brooding in the barn. It should actually be a little warmer in the room the adults are in. I am going to cull one rooster before I put them in though.
I bet she might take them. I had a bantam mama that took care of "her" babies until they were way bigger than her. She would still put her wings over them, so funny. :) It didn't last 8 months though, that's funny. :D

@SleepyOwl Tough week. Glad baby is going to be ok. Sorry about the hens. Moving birds to make life easier is always a good thing!!

Thank you!

Sorry to hear all this,, today is a new day,, hope it is better for you.

Thank you, so far so good. ;)

Ralphie... I am not sure If I should post this with fear you may attempt to steal my wife but here is the text message my lovely wife sent me at lunch when I was telling her about the new egg customer plus we got an email from another potential customer. Today is a good day :)

Is everyone outside today ? Heat wave here 44 degrees  . I need to get out and work on my truck .

Just a busier day than usual for me at work.
I am a computer programmer and have lots of down time to keep up on BYC reading while my applications build and compile.

It is a rough life :)

I am very proud of you Kloppers. I told you taking the Ralphie's Wife training and obedience class would pay off!.. Which BTW reminds me you have not paid the course off yet... Do you need me to send you another bill?

I have been in and out, It says 29 on ye ol thermy here. BUT there is a nip to the wind and the moisture is taking a bite too. I had to come in now because my worthless companion dog thinks it is too cold out there for her anymore. I even told her I was going to lock her in her kennel if she did not stay out with me..She is locked in her kennel and happy..

3pm and 19 degrees here.

Looks like momma cow's udder is really full. Teats look really fat today over the monitor. She looks like she is walking to accommodate the large udder you know like waddling. I might run out and look in person when BIL gets back.

Ralphie and EJB have you put in your 2 cents on the breed focus on the home page? The chantecler.

On the what??

SO that would be a no for me.

I caught the one PC in a nest today! I am not sure what she was doing. I use wood chip and some of the birds throw the chips out. (little brats!)

She was in a nest with hardly any chips in it. There was one blue egg in the box, so I new it was not hers. ( I think I know who lays in that set of nests, only one bird uses it the rest use the front set). She would roll the egg under her, and sit on it. Then the egg would roll out and she would roll it until it got just where she wanted it..

Then sit and out would come the egg. This went on over and over. As he gets more frustrated with the egg she gets more aggressive moving the egg. I have had 2 eggs with a toe hole in them, I was wonder how that happened. I know now!

I finally took the egg from her, she left the nest as I reached for it. EJB did not have lappers! He does have chickens with OCD though. It was funny to watch and had she broke the egg it would have been worth that cost to watch her. This will be ending for her soon. I think she is going into a breeding pen this weekend of before. I am thinking of putting the 2 PC's and 2 EE in the pen. I figure Ed would like more women.

I can keep their eggs separate and I think the PC over EE's should be cool birds and maybe Olive eggs? I do not have a lot of olive eggs I have more blue ones.
