Surviving Minnesota!

Thanks!

I feather sexed them, even though it supposedly doesn't work on bantams and only works if you have a slow feathering dad and a fast feathering female. It will be great if there's only one boy.

Hope Zues is feeling better!

He is doing great! I was going to rehome him this fall but he isn't going anywhere now! My little cousin is in love with him and she says he is her best friend. He also lets her hug him so I couldn't get rid of him!

Awwww, not all roosters are so sweet. He sounds nice. He's pretty too. My buff brahma bantam rooster Pumpkin was nice for a while but then, I think this year, he started attacking people, he quickly learned who is boss (although he needs a reminder sometimes) and hasn't attacked us in a while. I can catch him and hold him and he puts up with it because he knows he has to, he even gives "kisses" :)

On a better note I put 70+ eggs in the incubator. I cant fit anymore in there. Turning each one is gonna be hard but I think I can manage.
Holm. I love this about you.

Glad Zeus is on the mend, too.

Ralphie - hope your ongoing hatch is going well. That incubator info was helpful. If my homemade one, or its reincarnation, don't work out, I think I would have a better idea of what to get.

It is pretty quiet here with only three roosters. The egg eating has all but stopped. Between those ceramic dummies and the nutritional changes, I think we're almost out of the woods.

Have a good day, everyone ~

I feed my chickens eggs once in a while, I smash a raw egg on the ground and they all come running. Never had one break one though. We did have one hen who layed soft eggs for a while and then stopped laying. She would eat them right after she layed them so I had to watch her lay them and then quick grab them before she did.
She died March 5, same day the two black chicks were born :(

Funny yesterday. The DH was helping me by putting a roost in that new smaller coop. One of the girls jumped into the run because she was in there previously with the two RIR. She loved that coop and run to it when she saw it in the new location. I took it away and put the three hens back into the big coop when I knew we would be moving it. So she saw the coop and ran to it and jumped up and over and in.

Well, along came Tom. Who had not been in that coop. But now his hen was in it and my DH was standing along the side of it screwing in this roost and Tom did not like that the DH was that close to his hen. Tom started kicking the DH. The DH kicked back. Tom, of course, kept kicking. DH had a few words to say before I realized that the two males were in a battle together. I picked up Tom, who settled down right away. Not so much for the DH. LOL.

Judy and I went to Coffee's.

Porter is now in his new home. For a big tough Tom he cried and whimpered the whole trip over there. He has a good place to live there. The building he is in could be a huge chicken coop with 4 bays. Each bay could be cleaned with a bobcat! I want that building!

The coop she is using is really set up nice with poop boards and all. I am going to steal some of her ideas for my birds this summer. She really got a nice place. The house and all. And she is only about 4 miles from Fleetfarm!

I saw Roostie and James. Roostie is a nice looking little guy. He holds himself well, his feet are good and square with a cute little tail.

We came home a some cute little chicks! The Creamettes have finally started hatching. Whew, They sure are slowpokes. The others are already under the MHP and enjoying life.
