Surviving Minnesota!

I don't usually have a stick with me and I wasn't aiming for his head :( how can you tell if their skull is fractured? I think he has a concussion, can you get a concussion without getting knocked out?

Hope your guy is on the mend and learns some respect!
A good rooster is worth his weight in gold.
Don't beat yourself up. We're all learning. (Hugging emoji)

Violet How's your rooster this morning? Never hit anything in the head, it leaves bruises and the pictures of the bruises can used against you in court.

I have a bunch of little creamettes this morning. It makes no sense that the creamettes are hatching 2 days later than the other birds. They sat right next to and intermixed with the eggs that hatched two days ago.

Lots of work to do today, plus an early trip to Elk River. After you all post something for me to read during my 3 hours of coffee...

Thanks <3
He is doing much better this morning, even crowing. So I let him out with the group. His eye seemed less puffy and it was open.

That's good. Now when you walk through the chickens make sure you walk right through the rooster. You walk between him and his food or hens or whatever he wants. He will be leery of you after you gave him the knock on the noggin. Use it to your advantage to make him understand he can never beat you and you can always beat him. He will become a way better rooster because of it. Even if he does drool out of one side of his mouth for the next 20 years....

He is usually pretty good about attacking poeple, every month or so he needs a reminder. I'll make sure to never hit a chicken with a stick again. Usually when he attacks me I grab him and hold him and tap his head with my finger so it's like I'm pecking him. Then he's good for a couple weeks

Ralphie I'm jealous of your excursion to Coffee's place. I think by her previous photos we have ALL had our drooling moments over that little slice of poultry heaven. I can see why Judy made you wait for her.

Chicken MD report on the upside down buckeye: it seems I didn't see she had the other splint still on the other night so the other wing got more splint time. Yesterday at roost she seemed a little dropsy but today she looks quite well. No wing droop. I used save a chick in water as well. Anyways pleased with how easy that was.

I cleaned coop yesterday. That's a relief to have done. Big puffy shavings. Sniff sniff. I love the coop with fresh shavings! It's egg laying season so I needed to get on it.

Ralphie, how are you going to identify where those white chicks are coming from unless you somehow mark the eggs as they come from the hen and watch the incubation process constantly to see which egg or eggs they come from? Perhaps you should employ a monitor to watch these important things for you? Or you could find an apprentice that would like to attend one of Ralphies chicken management seminars with those duties in place of paying the normal fee?

I would like to warn those of you in the Minnesota Banana Belt that I have seen a forecast which indicates you may be in for a snow event, which those of us located in the Minnesota Frozen North are likely to miss out on.

Make sure the heaters and water heaters are still ready to be plugged in.

I am farming out the duties of telling me which group the white chicks come from. I have an idea, but am not 100% on it. I have been sending a few eggs to a few people telling them to let me know if they get a white chick. I send them all one group or the other. So if they get a white chick I will know where it came from. I am also hoping to get the CLB's hatching on a different day than the others so I can put one group in each hatcher.

I think the idea of someone attending one of my seminars (which would definitely give them their monies worth of learning) could come and sit by the incubators and study chick hatching until a white one appears!

We cannot be getting any snow! I forbid it, I have removed all snow removal equipment and put it away for the summer.

BC, the pictures of the coop Coffee posted do not do it justice! You could eat off her poop trays they are so clean. I am actually going to make some changes and put some of her ideas into my layer coop. I did not tell you this Yesterday, but when we were driving over to her place, with Porter in the dog kennel whimpering, Judy told Porter it was going to be ok. She told him you are going to a new place to live with a really nice woman, and if you get sick she will take good care of you. She will even breast feed you if you're real sick..

I had forgotten her putting Roostie inside her blouse to comfort him, Judy had not. ( maybe you had to be there, but I spit my coffee (drink kind) at that.

She should be on here today. The have had a terrible time getting and internet provider. Century is not taking any new customers in their area, the servers are over loaded. There is no cable, so they are stuck using Dish net internet, which required they buy TV also.

I just spit my Lemon Ginger Tea with Probiotics

..... I forgot about the 'nursing' chick, too. OMG....too funny. Judy...LOL.

That Woman is a whiz with things...building her own coop and run. A true Go-getter. I can just about imagine. Unh. I want poop boards. I feel like my coop could be 'easier.'

We had a dusting of snow on the deck. I do believe I saw a weather map of the system...and ejb and I are going to be virtually snowless compared to the Bananas and Coconuts.
