Blackberry coming to life

Thimble berry

Apricot in bloom

Made a strawberry bed out of a old tractor tire . Filled it with rotted wood chips . Just like black peat . Added a sprinkling of wood ash and dry chicken poo . Then planted . Planted some tomato seed indoors . Beautiful day today . Sunny and near 60 .

Oh that's awful! I would be devastated if something like that happened to me! Are you going to get her back? Explain there was a mistake?

I sent him a message, but haven't heard back yet. DH said he was really nice and enjoyed talking with him, so I'm hoping swapping hens or at least taking her back won't be an issue. He might also say a deal is a deal and that's that, which is true I suppose. I guess I would understand. We'll see....

Cute! Are there two geese in there?

I need to get a tub like that by the duck run. Only issue is it's going to be pretty far back on our property and the hose won't reach. I have to think this over a bit more and probably go smaller where the water can be more easily hauled out. Then they can just hang out in the pond when MN isn't a frozen tundra.

Holm, are you selling Cochin pullets this Spring?
Yep, two african geese. The tub worked great for ducklings and goslings, but now it gets dirty really fast, and its hard for the ducks to get out of. So we don't use it much anymore.

Nice Mailbox Coffee!!

I had a rough night, I have one PC hen, that tried to play like she was a pancake when I opened the nest box. The one I said I thought was going broody, went broody. I moved her to Gitmo to see if I can change her ways. She was not happy.

She talked to me when I put her in the cage at Gitmo. I know some of you will think I have went over the edge, while others of you will say, " my birds do that".

When I put her in the cage, I am sure she said "what the He Double hockey sticks is this?" She said it three times! This is the same hen that said "I don't like this" when I moved her from the main coop to the breeding pens.

She said it with a Barnum Accent, so I think she heard EJB say this a few times and learned to swear from him.

After I got her into Gitmo I went to get turkey eggs out of the one breeding pen, I have one cardboard barrel on edge in there for the three hens to use as a nest. All three were in the nest sitting on the eggs together. They hissed and snapped at me when I reached for the eggs. I ended up carrying all three of them to the Guinea Gulag and releasing them in there. I think all three of them are on the edge of broodiness. When I was fighting the one hen King George came running, I guess he thinks he is suppose to protect Hen turkeys too. I hope he is as good at attacking predators as he is running to check me out.

BTW the first one crapped on me, and managed to go so that it went between my tee shirt and my coveralls ( grandpa pants) it rolled. slid and went all the way down my leg to my socks...It was fun! I left the clothes next to the washer for Judy to wash. (hey, it's her job!!!)..

After I moved those I went to collect eggs from the Guinea Gulag. I have a barrel in there also. I found the nest egg 5' in front of the barrel, All the chips were scraped out and there was just one egg in the next. I went on an egg hunt then, I found a hen in a corner setting on a nest. She had 4 eggs under her. BUT to see those eggs I had to wrassle the hen. She hissed, slapped at me, puffed up. jumped at my feet, and hit me with her wings. I think she is almost broody too.

I did hear her say she wanted to live with Porter though...

I am putting those eggs right into the incubator incase she actually started early today sitting on them and development has occurred. They will only be a day behind last nights eggs at the most.
