Surviving Minnesota!

Brrrrrr. I HAD to run to Menards this a.m. as I was the designated errand runner while the DH replaced the sewage pump on our lift station. All done. Picked up some seeds and started stuff. KLOPs got me going with his pictures. Now I must put the mechanical room back together after washing down the furnace and hot water heater and well pump. Work work work.

Toms beak mending is holding together. I will check his crop tonight to make sure he is eating. He crows until I let him out of the run and that doesn't happen until after I get my eggs in the morning. He avoids the DH - thank heave. I think the DH felt bad about the whole episode. He just did not know. Now he does.

My love is quilting. Been doing it for three years now. Practice, practice, practice. Haven't really scrapbooked or made cards for a couple of years. Oh but I want to - I really do. I love the genealogy stuff because of all the history and stories and of course, chickens are my newest love. I think its enough and refuse to get into anything else. Besides crochet, knitting and ready but those are very sporadic. Oh! and the garden if that is considered a hobby. Whew! I am tuckered out. Love living.

We got the barn cat today. We were going to keep it in the barn for a day or two. But my younger sister already let it out..

Did it stay around?

I managed to buy a lantern, 2 red bell chicken waters, an ventilation fan for my insulated shop that will turn chicken house when we build a new garage and 3 shotguns. They were going so cheap I couldn't help but buy 3. I'm lucky I didn't get 5 or 10!!

I had to come in and have a hot cup of Coco. I went out to do chores and did not wear gloves or a jacket. Heck the sun is shining and this is the banana belt here.....

I froze! Chores took longer than I thought they would, more pens needed water and feed than should have. The layers were needy and begging for treats. Just took way to long. Then, to make it even longer, I sat and watched my Creamers and Creamettes I plan to try and show and look at them like judge would to see which ones will make the cut. I really want to take Andy, but their is another one coming up that may pass him. A lighter color a higher crest behind his comb and a flatter tail..

I think I need Jerry to come an pick out the better ones for me!

Also I am trying to decide whether I should return the BA's the layer coop or not. I might just keep my half breed BA/black EE in with the BA rooster and return the other hens. Maybe try to get another 20 chicks to pick from for the next generation of pea combed BA's.

BTW the egg from the half breed hen is a very dark brown compared to the BA's. I suppose I have to work on lightening the egg color to be able to call it anything BA like..

Sounds like the weather here.

It got really quiet on this thread, not long ago it was at least 10 posts an hour! I suppose it's Friday night and everyone had plans, and it's 12:25am right now

Good evening all. I'm tired but wanted to catch up to BYC. This morning drove DD to her pacesetter bb tournament in Grand Rapids. It was Black ice for the total 55 miles to get there. The girls went to town beating Mesabi East, I-Falls, Deer River and then we were in the championship game with Bemidji. A 1A school against a 3A. We made it tough for them but lost by 4 points. 2nd place.

Turkey banquet was tonight as well. DS won a 55 " tv and lodge ware cast iron griddle, pans and Dutch ovens. Totally handy. DH won 2 guns and a patio rocker set (deck furniture.) We were lucky this year. Last year I think we won a cap and subscription to outdoor news. Woot.
I'm so tired I can barely keep my eyes open.

Yesterday Sadie beat me to the eggs. Today I beat her to the coop and got 3 eggs. Old Sylvia, Lucy and Dixie. Nada from my buckeye yet since her upside down incident.

Just heading out to church. When I get back I will take care of the chickens and ducks, put the horses in the corrals, then go put the stansion up in the barn. After all that is done my dad and I are going to go check cows with the horses.
At 12:00 my sister and I have to go into town for a band recital for our trip to SanFran this June.
Then I will hopefully come back soon enough to spend some time with the hens
