Surviving Minnesota!

@Bogtown Chick I just loaded up a dozen eggs for hatching at the local school! i am so excited! now i know how you feel! If you remember, my mom is a teacher and she managed to pull some strings to let her and one of the kindergarden teachers do a team lesson around hatching them!

I sent her with 12 eggs in hopes that 6 will hatch. I have no idea what i sent except that some were from conrad's flock an some were from Buck's flock. i picked a few of what i though were Rainbow eggs and what i hope are Buckeye over Barred rock. we will see what kind of barnyard mutts i get :) i was hoping to pick some cornish eggs but they all laid yesterday and are on break today i guess. oh well!

it is pouring rain again now. eek!

I have figured out the mystery of the missing Sussex eggs. I decided to clean their breeder coop for them. I opened it up and there were a 12-15 eggs in the front corner, in a place I cannot see without opening the hatch or a mirror.

I drug the eggs out with the poop. Bedded lightly. no sense letting them think they get lots of bedding when they lay eggs on the floor!

I gave them a stern talking to about the importance of proper egg placement. I think everything will be fine tomorrow.

Those dirty rascals!!

First broody hen of the year!
She's a 4 year old Partridge Chantecler.
She's had one other hatch, she hid from me though.
Her other hatch had 8 chicks in it, she hid under an overturned wheelbarrow, and I did not find her until one day I heard chicks peeping

I then moved her from underneath the wheelbarrow to a dog kennel.

Okay - I have a personal problem that I am about to make public. I have previously established the fact that Tom Hanks and my DH just do not like each other. My DH has stated tonight "I'm gonna kill that bird!" Which could be funny if he was not so serious. He literally cannot walk from the house to his shop without Tom attacking him.

THANKS GUYS!!!! You really helped! LOL I told you some of my options and by telling you I could make a decision of how to remedy this for the time being and then move that coop around on Mother's Day (because DH will agree to that just because it is Mother's Day and hes nice to me on that day - LOL)

I suppose getting him to hold and snuggle with Tom Hanks is not going to happen, even if that would stop the attack......

Kloppers it's fun to live vicariously through those kindrgarteners. Imagine what they will be soaking in and remembering about the best science experiment ever. Eggs to baby fluff balls of extreme cuteness. I cannot think of a more impressionable science experiment personally!

Tonight -- just a little while ago-- I candled Dixie's two eggs. I could not see any thing but yolk in the NH/BLRW egg. I am not very experienced at candling. The welsummer egg-- I saw a chick embryo zigging and zagging with the light moving around. Yes the welsummer egg!!! I'm so pumped about that!!!

DH needs a walking stick for his truck or the walk between the house and shop. My DH had a couple come to Jesus meetings in the early years with the Big Tootsie. Now they have mutual respect. The stick can be used to just herd or push him away. Or can be used to flip him over on his back and embarrassing Tom in front of his hens. Or. My FIL and dear dad like to bring their fishing nets when babysitting dear Tootsie. Roger is usually steering clear after a netting during chore time.
