LOL...no the moose won't come near us...my dogs are too loud and obnoxious! I have two very spoiled horses and...*clears throat* I'm a shebut yes, I live 3 miles north west of Finland!
Wait a second!!! Hold on.... Are you saying you found downtown Finland? I lived near there for 5 years ( 40 years ago) and never did figure out where it was... All I knew for sure was when I reached Isabella I as in the burbs.

No barn cats here but I was going to enclose the run entirely with the hardware cloth and also 2 feet around the outside perimeter of the run and coop and then cover it in rocks...Do you think that would be sufficient? I do worry about the smaller night prowlers but the coop will be a fortress by the time I'm done building it
As far as moisture, I am worried about that as well because my horse stalls get condensation on the ceiling. I plan to ventilate at the top of the stalls this year and also the top of the coop which I hope will eliminate the condensation issues. I also have a solar powered motion light on the front of the barn. It's a work in progress and I am trying to do it right from the start so I appreciate all the advice from everyone!

Hello everyone! I have missed you all and finally am all caught up. Welcom @Siggie ! My wife and I are avid campers and Tettagouche is one of our favorite parks, i just love the area! It sounds like you have a good start to your plans for your coop. lots of good advice already.
@Bogtown Chick glad to see Dixie is still doing her duty. hopefully more than 1 egg hatches! I always snicker a little when you talk about your hen Dixie as my hound is named Dixie and i have a mental image of her sitting on eggs
I have had a wild several days and havent been able to keep up on BYC. I spent about 36 hours straight working and boy am i tired! i did spend the night outside working. i would have been a sin not to be out in this weather. i will sleep hard tonight!
My CXs are doing so well. they were enjoying the sun today at the edge of the tractor. they are growing quickly and always hungry. I sadly lost one the other day. I looks like he may have got his head stuck in the feeder at night time feeding and chilled over night. I felt terrible as I was already on the fence about moving from the chick feeder to the big feeder tray in the tractor. Poor guy
I ran the disc over the garden tonight then started making passes over the bottom where i burned. there are some very odd and wickedly uneven humps all over i am trying to knock down to make it mowable. my tractor is like a bucking bronco running over them with the disc. I got a good amount of work done before i burst a hydraulic line and got a lovely oil mist shower from the drivers seat. Have a look at these very odd humps. I understand that this used to be a dairy cow pasture many many moons ago so maybe that has to do with it? it is low ground so the could have trampled it like this when the ground was soft?
DW and I have been talking about what the long term plans are for this area. originally i burned it off citing that i wanted to maintain it as additional chicken ranging space. now that i am doing more improvement work we talked about getting it seeded or drilled with pasture mix. the talk briefly turned to the possibility of us getting sheep in 2018 and using 2017 as a year to establish new pasture in our rented farmland and this bottom area while we rebuild or remodel our house (building is still on the table). Very exciting as I wasnt sure if DW was being serious at first but she seems genuinely interested in that being in our future. that gives me time to start accumulating baling equipment as we would probably bale a portion of the farm and graze the rest. it is fun to day dream about the future!
In other news, our rental tenants move out of our house at the end of the month so we are starting to look for a realtor to sell the property. we hope it goes quick! that will be nice not to have to worry about that plus a huuuge chunk of change in the bank for next years house plans. the more it sells for the better our house building outlook can be!
and i have been saving the best for last! THIS WEEKEND THE FARMERS MARKET STARTS! it starts on my birthday which i consider a great birthday present. We have such a blast at the market, plus DW surprised me and had some fun shirts made at the local sports store for us to wear! pictures to come eventually! i cant wait to get my new sign out and get some eggs sold and meet some new people!
