Surviving Minnesota!

Nope, Not me. My name is not Holm...

However, I do know a flock of 20-30 guineas will scare the poop right out of a bear! Guineas start screaming and the bear start running...

This weather is ridiculous! I am ready for fall now.

Hello fellow Minnesotans. I finally actually made the move to MN from CO and I am about ready to start my backyard flock again. I am wondering who lives within a reasonable distance of Mankato and hatches? What breeds do you have available? I am interested in Easter eggers, Barred rocks, Chantecler, New Hampshire, Australorp, orpington, primarily but I would like to see who has other cold hardy breeds as well.

Duluthralphie I know we have talked in the past. What breeds are you hatching??

Welcome!
I might have Cochin bantam hatching eggs next spring. But the parents are from a hatchery.

Marshmallow rejected her chicks today, she wouldn't let them roost with her anymore so I had to put up a new roost. When I left Pumpkin and the chicks were on the same roost. Marshmallow had one all to herself.

Dot even roosted tonight, maybe it's to hot.
Usually when I block off the nest boxes she slept in front of her favorite one. She still makes broody clucks.

If had had my phone with me I would've taken pics. Marshmallow did a wonderful job of raising her chicks to be freindly.

I purchased some day old or maybe they were couple of days old from ralphie, they are 4 weeks old now and he is standing behind his birds 100% and I paid full value for them he is not paying me to advertise in any way shape or form.they are doing fantastic!

I have EE, Black australorp, Speckled Sussex, Partridge Chanticler, but I am not doing well on them, they do not seem to want to hatch. My Cream Legbars, Turkeys and I could always hatch some mixes, but my rooster for them is "Son Of Ole" so he Is an EE..

OH and I have 3 Guinea eggs to hatch, still, they did not give me one today.

Also I lost a Creamette from my breeders today. When I went to collect eggs I had a "funny" egg that was a broken glob, but not really broken...If that makes any sense...

Then I saw a hen laying on the floor and I thought she might be making a nest there or went broody, Looking closer I saw she was dead. I looked her over and saw nothing wrong with her. I will be watching the other 3 in her pen very closely the next few days. I did notice they were not outside like the rest today, so maybe she just was stupid and stayed in the hot little breeding box/coop and over heated.

That's cool!

My neighbor had his pigeons out yesterday - made me think of you. I don't know if their wings are clipped or if they're just that tame, but they sit on the coop roof and hang out.

I thought about getting some Guineas due to the abundance of ticks we've been seeing. I picked quite a few off of the dog yesterday.

I think I saw this in Holm's yard last year:

Cool! Do you know what kind he has? We let our pigeons out a few days ago, they are starting to fly around a little bit. But then one died today, it seemed like his neck was broken or he was having seizures.
