Surviving Minnesota!

Uh Ralphie? Did you say that Judy set eggs in the incubator while you traveled to Brainerd last weekend? What in the world is happening at your house Ralphie!? Is Judy turning into a chickener?

No, she took babies out of the hatcher. I am sure it was a passive aggressive thing just to mess with me. But she does spent lots of time with the chickens lately!

That is a beautiful bike Siggy! I gave up my bike two years ago now. Still think about it once in a while - it was time to quit riding.

I am only one year old as a chickener. That is why I asked if it mattered whether the chicks are hatchery grade or breeder grade if I want only the eggs. I think breeder grade is important if a person wants to show birds.

And thanks Jerry. You are an encyclopedia. I am glad to read that sometimes hatchery chicks may be better layers. Say Jerry, would a breeded bird be heartier / heathier than a hatchery bird? It kind of makes sense that they might be. Cost wise they are more expensive right?

Additionally, the 'boilers' that I see advertised for freezer birds - they grow so fast! Whats that all about?

That is Bert Sr!!!!

They are better eating and healthier if you slow their growth, IMHO

Also my Bike is in pieces in the shed, I am too old to ride it, I have decided. I need more than 2 wheels now days.

No more school!!!

I have lots of family staying with us this weekend for my oldest sister's HS graduation.

I don't like this much family over cause they think that it's ok to go touch and hold the animals, or go walk in the corrals without asking. Especially with Dakota's calf I'm kind of worried since the dairy farm we got them from said that the calves can be very sensitive.. I'm hoping that Stew doesn't attack anyone, he hasn't attacked my dad or I but he is getting aggressive.. If any of them bring there dogs, lord help me not to start cussing at them to get their dumb dog off of our property.

My sorry. I went back and re-read just after I sent my before message and realized my mistake. Still . . . . . Judy must be 'maturing' like the rest of ole folk because she seems, not saying she is or does - just seems, to be enjoying and participating and becoming attached to birds in this past winter. Hoorah for YOU. Do you bring up pigeons yet? Maybe someone should 'drop' off a few for you to 'try' out.

One duckling has hatched, hopefully more in the morning! It's a Buff/Runner mix.

And my Old english hen hatched 7 healthy chicks out of 7 eggs! One chick is under her on the photo.

She is beautiful! I am going to try this method of attaining more birds IF I ever need more birds. I will buy fertilized eggs when I do it as I am sure I will have no more roos by that time.

Make warning signs and post them. DO NOT ENTER BEWARE OF ROOSTER let them ask why - good conversation starters.

our dog works pretty well for that

we had a monsoon last night. standing water in all the fields around here and a smattering of small hail. the good news is that it washed away the skunk funk.

I suppose I will be setting out some live traps tonight
