Surviving Minnesota!

Some people think that when they buy chicks they're all females. I watched a couple buy 12 chicks the other day because they only want 12 laying hens. These were straight run chicks. Ummmmmm. Okay.

Very clever girl! Keep us posted on this nest.

Looks amazing, Siggie! You'll have some very happy ladies.

Thanks! I still need to make the nesting boxes but they won't need those right away. Holy weather up here today...yesterday 75, today 45 and sideways rain????

Question for anyone: Do you use automatic pop door closers on a timer ? and if so what kind?

I don't because I have some rogue chickens and I'd hate for them to be left out. It would be nice in the morning though. I actually don't close my pop door in the spring/summer/fall - shame on me, I know. It leads to a secure run. Well, I hope it's secure.

So many junebugs around right now, is it ok to toss one in the brooder for the chicks to eat?

My little ones just look at them funny. A few pecks here and there, but no consumption. I might have to toss a few at my hens and see if they tackle the task.
