Barring is on a sex chromosome making sex links possible . Barred hens and a non barred rooster give pullets with no barring and cockerels with 1 copy barring .Pullets can only have one barring gene males can have 2 copies . So yes you will get some blue barred males and some black barred .

Thanks for this so the pullets will be blue or black and the cockerels will be barred? So the chicks with a white dot on their heads will be boys? What if I breed the brothers and sisters together? And they have to have two barring genes for it to show. Will there be non barred males?

A male with 1 barring gene will pass 1 barring gene to half his offspring both male and female .You will get non barred chicks of both sexes also .The quick way to get 2 barring genes for true breeding barring is to take a barred cockerel and breed it back to barred hens .The hen only passes barring to her sons . So half of those will get a barring gene from the cockerel . This cockerel is lighter color than the hen due to the dosage effect of barring .




This cockerel has 1 barring gene . Dark as a hen plus the a black feather gives it away . I have no idea why a black feather does not happen in hens . In chickens the hens are ZW and roosters not sure but lets say ZZ . So barring is on Z . This is form memory so It could be WW and barring on W . These are my cuckoo Ameraucana project .

Hello everyone!

I am so excited! Today was show day and i couldnt be happier! So in our first show my sister placed Grand Champion and I took Reserve! I was thrilled! Then came showmanship! I only got a blue ribbon (which is still great!) And my sister got reserve champion in showmamship! After that we had State fair line up. Thats where all the grand and reserve champions of every class line up so the judge can pick who goes to state. WELL... Minnie I was wrong, my sister cant go to state. Anyways my siter took Overall Grand Champion and some kid with a goose took reserve! Well since Adah cant go and I wad runner up I am going to State!!! AAAAHHH!!! I AM STILL SO EXCITED FOR MY SISTER!! If anybody is going to the State Fair let me know!

We got to South Dakota around noon, then we went out hiking until about 6.
Had supper then sat in the hot tub

Then I started my chicken business plan to present to my dad so that he will get an idea of what I want.
Now I am laying in a hammock, which is where I'm also sleeping, on my grandparents patio by their house
