I don't take birds back for real biosecurity reasons. I would cull one before I took it back. But then I talk to almost everyone the dogs like, they are better judges of people than I am.
The rooster went right into an isolated dog kennel I have on the side of the house and was culled the next morning. I always hope to find them a home first, however.
The kid had to be in his early 20's, but brought his parents with him. I'm assuming in case I refused. I have no doubts they would have just let him go anyways.
Very early in the spring a couple came by to purchase some pullets from me. I think I may have already told this story.....humor me.....the guy refused to buy what we initially agreed upon unless I sold him some other hens he saw running around. If I remember right, he wanted my Black Copper Marans. The guys was a complete jerk and was too shifty for my liking. I went in complete defense mode and had my son keep an eye on his wife who was waiting in front of the house. My hubby booted him out and that was that. The entire time I'm just thinking...."they're only chickens, buddy....relax.". It's not like I was dealing Rolex watches or something. Lol
Unfortunately, it seems like most of us have had these encounters. I certainly don't mind company if I like you! I very much so enjoy having folks over. Especially for coffee. Growing up, the best conversations were had over coffee....
Thanks for the info - very cool! I can see why you like them.
