Surviving Minnesota!

I don't take birds back for real biosecurity reasons. I would cull one before I took it back. But then I talk to almost everyone the dogs like, they are better judges of people than I am.

The rooster went right into an isolated dog kennel I have on the side of the house and was culled the next morning. I always hope to find them a home first, however.

The kid had to be in his early 20's, but brought his parents with him. I'm assuming in case I refused. I have no doubts they would have just let him go anyways.

Very early in the spring a couple came by to purchase some pullets from me. I think I may have already told this story.....humor me.....the guy refused to buy what we initially agreed upon unless I sold him some other hens he saw running around. If I remember right, he wanted my Black Copper Marans. The guys was a complete jerk and was too shifty for my liking. I went in complete defense mode and had my son keep an eye on his wife who was waiting in front of the house. My hubby booted him out and that was that. The entire time I'm just thinking...."they're only chickens, buddy....relax.". It's not like I was dealing Rolex watches or something. Lol

Unfortunately, it seems like most of us have had these encounters. I certainly don't mind company if I like you! I very much so enjoy having folks over. Especially for coffee. Growing up, the best conversations were had over coffee....

A white sport is not a breed it is a bird with 2 white recessive genes, making a white chicken of almost any breed as I understand. Mine happen to be cream legbars. They are a monster as far as the breed purist go, but I love them.

I will try to get some new pictures.

Thanks for the info - very cool! I can see why you like them.

Yeah I know . She just keeps after me for things on her list that must go .I distract easily so forget what I was going to load . Just the normal friction . I wish I could get her to let me go through the list myself . I of course have a mental list that I can forget . So I am not at fault you see . Ralphie would agree I am sure .

I so agree, YOU ARE NOT AT FAULT. ever!

Lol. He would agree.

I'm on here to make sure the females are well defended in the battle of the sexes. Right Ralphie? Lol.

I'm going through feed again. A yellow lab has been helping the chickens with their feed bowls. What is it about that stuff other than 'it doesn't belong to her so she must eat it.' Will need to make a run to GR. They sell purina there and I do like that brand.

Labs make raising chickens 4 times more expensive than they should be.

If they would just limit themselves to the tasty treats chickens drop for them instead of feed and eggs it would help immensely.

BTW Bert is alive this morning and appears better. He has eaten more corn and pooped. Both are good signs. Fingers still crossed..

Good Morning you all! Jerryse - I do not believe I have ever read you joking on this thread. You have crossed over. Its nice.

Ralphie and BT - I have had my stove-top percolator for just about two weeks now - nummmmm. Loving the coffee that it takes about 1/2 hour to make. Life needs to slow down so I am okay with that.

I hopped on my bike this morning and rode over to the clinic to have my blood pressure checked. Taking a different medication so they want to make sure. And it is good. I would like to get off of the stuff but as of this hour, do not know how or what to take. We will see where that takes me.

Ralphie, I am gonna be in the back digging if you decide to stop in for a delicious percolated cup of coffee or a Mikes. And I am not purty to look at which simply does not matter to you thank heavens. Judy would not care either of how I look if she is along for the ride.

No tracks, no signs of a visitor this morning. That is good. Now I need to go get dirty outside after I spray myself in the shower with DEET. They are nasty little buggers. The chicks are going to get to free-range for a while when I am outside working today. Its gonna be a good day!

I got one good thing out of this trip.
I got my grandpa's 22 250!!
I don't get it until we see him next time though. Can't wait to shoot some coyotes with it

Well I am a introvert . We are very selective . So I feel really comfortable with the very nice people on here .

Last night my family had the "opportunity" to help set up the Poultry barn for our county fair. Along with it we witnessed a mother meltdown. Mother meltdowns must be a customary thing for 4H preparation. This particular case involved the Mother and Daughter arranging to meet a Pollarium Tester during barn set up. When the tester called saying he was unable to make it due to work obligations, the mom all but freaked out. The daughter (approx. 14 years old) had to calm the mother down. I think some parents forget 4H is about the KIDS!

Parents buy from a reputable breeder with NPIP certification or buy from a hatchery if you can't find some place to get your birds tested.

END RANT!

They should have called me, I could have tested it. I would have driven to Foley for a few hundred.......
