Surviving Minnesota!

Hey everyone! Haven't been on for awhile. I am currently staying at a resort by Duluth on a family trip.

And a few pics...

Beautiful! Is the loon on lake Superior, or a smaller lake?

Good morning peeps. Can't sleep. Congested. I'm still alive after mushroom omelette. I have to say they are better than the lobster mushroom. Going to try to sleep more.... So maybe not morning winner after all.
Good morning!

Morning . I tried the creamed cucumbers . I ate about half of them myself . Did some mowing in the woods trails yesterday with the tractor .

Ralphie you ever get that sawmill running ?

Nathan it is on a smaller lake that our resort is on. It is called Fish lake and it is BEAUTIFUL!

I have never had "lobster shrooms" yet. But I do think the chantrelle is my favorite of the 3 (yes, three whole species) I have tried. They taste the most like a "store bought mushroom" but better. If that makes sense..

My putor is revolting today. I could not get it to do anything, it just refused to cooperate. Some days I hate it. I got to read everything on my IPhone but I hate posting on it so I am coming back to post now. I need a teenager around to fix these technical things!

Yes and no. I have it running if I have the "squirt oil can" hooked up to the fuel line. When I take it off it does not run. I think it has a fuel pump and the diaphragm is cracked. I have been building breeding pens the last few days. I can work on the engine when I am alone. Judy has been here helping me on the pens. She goes back to work today. So I might get too it, but I doubt it.

I have coffee to drink, then tomatoes to pick, juice and can. I am moving one of my modular pens today and moving my chickens out of the brooder. BTW Ed I can now tell the Appletini Sprizters from the polish! I think I can see the Yokahama's and the Marans but am not sure. I assume the Cucko Marans are barred. If not I have no idea who is who.

The Polish have mop heads and the appletini Spritzers have a Lowell Lovett's type Mohawk. Okay kids look up whop he is and what his claim to fame is...

I also should get a count on keets and chicks I want to get rid of and crates to haul them to New Ulm. I need more time! There is an Amish Consignment auction near Deer Creek next weekend I might have to go to instead. I would rather do New Ulm, I think the prices would be better in New Ulm. but who knows.

Holm you are in EJB's backyard if you on Fish Lake. My daughter's in laws have a cabin about 10 miles from there. ( they are on Island lake with all the other rich people)..

I am going to take the keets away from the PC hen soon. She laid one egg about a week ago and nothing since. Her and Ed seem to be avoiding the keets or trying to and they just seem to follow her. Also I found some of Ethel's babies, they just moved in with Ed. She is up from 13 that she hatched to 17 now. So Ethel only lost 1. I am still down other birds.

This is day 4 in the coop. They are not happy. However, it is giving me a chance to check up on my hens. They are NOT being good hens. I only got 8 eggs yesterday. I have 15 old hens in the coop, and about 45 youngsters that are just starting to lay. 8 eggs in not acceptable, I need to decide if I want to keep them as pets or move them into a jar. I am thinking I will do a little of both.

Does anyone want some eggplant? We have had our fill and I am getting them like crazy.....

Need more coffee....

Good Morning Chickenersssss! It is sooo quiet around here with Tom re-homed. Who knew he made so much noise? Reggie is beginning to step up when it come to keeping his girls in line. I previously said that I added Tom's girls to Reggie's coop and being as they are older, and being as they are establishing a different pecking order, there are squabbles going on. Mostly the two ISA's (who faithfully give me eggs) picking on the other chicks. Those two have always been mean and I do not want any more of them. Supposidly they are good layers for a couple of years and then subcumb to old age.

The funeral yesterday was for my incredible 99 year old cousin once removed. That man was remarkable. At 92 he took me to the original homesite on the St. Croix River Bluffs. He stopped walking the woods at 94 because it was 'becoming a little difficult.' His wife is 91 and they had a full house of 14 kids. So I got to see alot of my second cousins at the funeral. His wife is my cousin once removed also. Adam was my Grandpa's nephew and Winifred was my Grandma's niece. Very nice send off. Sommerset, WI is where my family settled after coming down from Quebec. I learn so much from both of them.

I love the rambling on here. I learn alot from you chickeners rambling.

Now BC - how is that throat doing? Don't you need an anti biotic to get rid of Strep? I absouletly would not take an anti biotic after the one I took in June for the first time EVER! I up my Vitamin C (natural antibiotic - HONEST - but you know that) 1,000's of miligrams. Lottsa water. Lottsa herbal tea. Broth. All seems to help me if I need help.

How is that hand Ralphie? More breeding cages? Doesn't sound like that feed bill is going down anytime soon.

So erlibird - you have your chickens processed? I was thinking of it but felt it would be frowned upon on this thread. I want to create a good impression but . . . I just don't think I have it in me to do the deed.

I Love Layers - so sad to hear about your injured chickie. Did you do the deed yet?

Have fun with that roof this weekend -
