I'm really liking the cross though, the mom adds in a longer back which allows for more meat around the ribs and back in general. The dad is just thick overall

Can't wait to take some to sales next spring and see what the go for! Usually they go for $80 in the spring and over $100 in the fall

I raise Californians for meat. I have a litter of 7 that need to get processed this coming week. I do them around 14-15 weeks and get about a 3-3.5# carcass from them. I have another litter of 4 in another cage that are about 2 weeks behind them.

Yep, I am glad she is home. But I did think she would forget how to "nag" with having been gone that long. I was wrong.



I thought it was only me that never see what I need to kill when I have a gun. As soon as I don't the blame things are everywhere. I went out at 6 this morning to give some rodents a ride on the happy hunting ground taxi. Not one of them anywhere. So I went mushroom hunting..

Be careful, I hear mushroom hunting can be tough, some of those shrooms are sneaky and hear you coming and run for cover! What kind of gun do you use to hunt mushrooms with?

Rhett's how is Norman the little bull doing??? I he doing his "job"?



I had to band our little premature calf today... He isn't hardly growing... He's no bigger than 125 pounds and was born in May! But just be in he's small doesn't mean he didn't fight me! I wish I got it on video! I got to play cowboy and flip him on his side and hold them there while banding him. It was a chore but I managed to get that terrible job done.

He is good!! He has not had the pleasure of lady company yet. But soon! My BIL is gonna try him out on his Jersey girl. Heading over any day now. Then we will put him in with the rest of the herd that is 'supposed' to have been bred by the Highland bull but I won't say anything if my little guy gets his chance for cleaning up. I plan to use Norman on my Highland and my Highland/hereford cross next year. Do you think that would be an ok bull over those girls? Shouldn't be any delivery issues or heads too big right? Still learning over here! BTW those babies would be destined for freezer camp should they exist and live long enough to make it to camp (like 3 years from now)

Those calves should be perfect for them! Probably between 60-70 pounds I would think? They should be just fine! Our Jersey is bred to a SimAngus with an 82 pound calving weight and she does just fine. A lot of times its not how heavy the calf is but how bulky. So chest size, butt size and head size are where u find most issues.

Maybe u guys need another Jersey over there?!

My dad is from Germany. As a kid I'd get sent to Germany every other summer to stay with his cousins family. Remember thinking how odd it was that almost every household had a hutch with pet bunnies. . Whoops...not pets....dinner!
