Surviving Minnesota!

Opps! So Ralphie still has a bumper? So what are the standards you have to keep up and who are Henry and Stella? Geeze - I hate for you guys to find out just how little I know but how else am I gonna learn if I don't ask. Henry and Stella - guns/rifles?

Ivie you are so sweet, Henry's hard soda and Stella's is a beer :)

Minnie and Ralphie I am gonna try figure something out. The only issue is my parents wouldn't be able to stay the whole weekend so I wouldn't have an adult lol. That's kinda how it works ig... I'll try figure something out!

Hey all. I got to give Ralphie and Jerry a nice guided walk in the woods. We did stumble on some lobster mushrooms and two chanterelles. Jerry had found two before at his place. So we gifted the chanterelles and most of the lobster to him. Ralphie took home some lobster to try. We walked 5-6 miles today according to my pedometer but some of our walking included rough terrain, hills, navigating blow downs. It felt like more shall we say.
Raphie has some bumper left. I feel bad that happened. Lots of dead deer in the ditches this weekend. They are restless...or more traffic up here this weekend.

As Erli said Ivie... I copy catted her and got Ralphie a few Henry's and Stella Cidres. But he didn't drink any. I think he was thinking about raiding your fridge though...if he stopped.

We'll I'm worn out after such a beautiful day in the woods with good chicken friends no less. We were out from 9:00 until 2:00. Felt good though! The leaves are perfect. Ttyl. Safe travels home Ralphie. See you around Jerry!

I had to google it: http://www.safeeggs.com/safest-choice-pasteurized-eggs/how-we-pasteurize-eggs. Evidently the eggs are put in a water bath that "The combination of time and temperature heats the eggs in their shells to the exact temperature needed to destroy all bacteria, exceeding established food safety standards—without cooking the egg."

I just looked online and it said 70degree C was needed to kill most salmonella. That 158 degrees F. I think it said for 5 minutes. That is soft boiled isn't it?

Or is this a marketing scheme?

I am home,,,,

I ended up riding in a nice tow truck from just south of Deerwood to home!

I am glad I decided against stopping Erlibrd. That would have just made the trip worse. Now I get to play the insurance games for a few weeks....

I had a great walk in the woods, my calves, knees and hip feel it. I can tell I am old tonight.

Yes. At least you are home safe. Long tow truck ride, hope insurance will cover it?

Did your deer get a ride with you?

I am so sorry about the car.... All that way up here for a few mushrooms and to have that hassle....Oh no. Shoot!
Came home and saw that Road Kill at the end of our drive. The turkey vultures and crows are making short work of that doe. Wow...they can really take care of a carcass. Tomorrow there will be eagles on it ...I'm sure. Another day or so it will be bones. Crazy how it doesn't go to waste really.

Finished off the day with some horse chores. DD is horse-sitting. We have to grain them, check the water. And then for fun we brush them out and she picks out their hooves as well. I'm impressed with her and her skills with that...given that we don't have our own horses. She just leans into those legs and runs a hand down the leg and picks up those hooves. They are good horses though, too. They cooperate pretty well.

I grabbed a beverage once home and a recliner lawn chair...drug out the chicken feeder once I was down at the coop for some chicken TV. I was promptly chased back to the house after 5-10 minutes with a nice fall mosquito swarm. It was so nice out ...was a little disappointed those skeeters were still around.

I noted that the little Blue Ameraucanas I got from JerrySe are starting to check out my Free Range Nest house today. Both girls climbed in there together. And when I brought out the feeder down at the coop. Miss Kitty--the Blue one with the cheeks-- flew all the way from the top of the hill up at the house down to the coop--no touching ground. Full flight. I was impressed. So was Junior. He gave an aerial 'heads up' call or 'twirl'. I had to giggle at him. Glad he's paying attention I guess. Even though that's one of his favorite girlfriends and not a predator. I'll have to get a photo montage of him. He's getting quite big and distinctive looking. I gawked at him again today as I pulled into the driveway.
