Good Morning Chickeners . . . . Its gonna be a rainy day here too said the third chickener.

A day inside! Cuddled up with the ironing board, the mop, possibly the sewing machine, definitely cuddled in the bathrooms cleaning them so they sparkle . . . . . I am so excited!

The day has begun!

Turned on the rope lighting in the coop plus the heat lamp is on for the six week olds. They are growing like weeds - or like chicks.

It is not raining near the big lake at this time. The big lake has a tendency to hold weather fronts either off or in place.
All this talk regarding birds in the house and on the bed is quite confusing to me. Those that would be involved in such activity are difficult to label, as they may seem normal in most respects? But that behavior is evidence for residence in the loony bin!
It can get cold and I don't care, but I hope it does not rain or snow until February.

Clearly, you are NOT one of those people who sees the subtle differences in hues and shades of color!  Next you will be telling the ladies theirs are not teal but seafoam green!  

I might call those carhartts on the top rack a carmine pink or maybe a poppy pink?

Rained here. Everything was frozen. Only 5 hens, 1 rooster, and the 2 ducks went out this morning. I need to pick up feed I'm literally out

I'm hoping to get those 1 dozen hatching eggs on Monday next week! I still need to ok it with my mom though

Good Morning All. My Carhartt got rained on this AM as well. Dark and Gloomy out there. Layers it sounds like I should disconnect the garden hoses from the house as cold weather is coming this way....? I haven't looked at my weather app lately for a forcast.

Junior and the Illini roosted on the top roost with all the old hens last night. I guess he has won them over. He was squeezed in the middle. Illini on the left and old hatchets on the right. Schmoozer.

Which then made room for Patsy Cline and June Carter to roost on the lowers without harrassment from second generation Lucy and Daisy. It's all a Power Struggle. But I'm glad the days of poopy nest boxes are coming to an end....as I would like to find nice clean pullet eggs.............. Which may or may not happen I guess. I might discuss with Shannon, my classroom hatching friend on bumping up her hatching time from middle of may to middle of April. I think the girls just need more daylight to start that fall laying. IDK...we'll see. I should google that pelvic bone palpation. See if I can determine how far out we are to huevos.

I think the birds in persons bed could be a rumor started by Ivie, however, I am not sure it might have been Erlibrd.

I know I would never propagate an ugly rumor like that myself.



I want it to stay around these temps until late Feb. when it can start to warm up again.


I think you "women" need a separate thread to discuss chicken chore fashion. My birds were scared yesterday of me because I wore my Carhartt jacket for the first time this year. They prefer consistency in outer wear. I have found underwear color makes no difference to them nor does sock color..

I think I am going to run to Monticello and grab a couple bags of feed. I had planned to get a truck load but I hate bringing feed sacks back in the rain.

So far today I have been lazy and enjoying it. I read the thread early and saw I had lost and was too lazy to respond, watched TV, read and drank coffee.

I hung a new bird feeder yesterday, the goldfinches do not like it. It seems to take them a week or two to get use to a new feeder.

LOL - they are hard to label because they are C R A Z Y and crazy is difficult to put a definition to.
