I was clerking for Diana... You had to look on the feet and the feather stubs were apparent. The one was really bad and other only had a few.
I was not meaning to imply they were not there. They were, I guess, I just never thought they were feathers. Until I put my glasses on and looked really good at them it looked just like a scale of poop to me. I had to ask what "stubs" were, Trevor showed me them, and Don told me washing birds can bring them out in some cases. Or Oiling the legs like I did.
Don Was an interesting guy. He told me lots. After the judging was done Art talked to me about my SS. He was impressed with them. Wanted to know where I got them. Seemed a little shocked when I told him I traded a legbar rooster for a trio. He said mine were better than his. He showed me what direction to work with them to get even better. He is really into the details.
He also looked at and commented on the PC's with me. It seems I picked the wrong one to show. However, I did not have a lot of choice on them as I did not get many chicks after I decided to try and show some. I now know how to tell if penciling is good and how to check it..
Diana and I talked for about a half hour and she went over all my birds too. She really liked the smaller Dom that she disqualified. She said it was a good bird except for the stubs.
She asked about the legbars and why some had crest and some don't.. I told her because they are not accepted in the APA yet, I brought a rooster that would be disqualified once the SOP's go into effect. They must have a crest. The cream one had one defect being it is almost Crele. Crele is going to be an acceptable color
. The white one has no crest, the cream one has a very small one, you have to look close to see it. A crest is required, but so is a comb with 7 points. The challenge is getting a straight comb with 7 points and a crest on one little head. I have rooster with crests but the comb becomes mangled. I wish one of the pullets would have laid yesterday, the egg color is so unique...
Leaving here for New ulm in minutes now..
Minnie Everyone said to just pluck them, so faking or not, I will check between toes from now on.
