I'm assuming you have to have quite a few males if you have multiple nests going for hatching? That's interesting. Do they take only one mate?

I think of you every time I want to get rid of my KC trio! They're so noisy today. The water is frozen and they hate the snow. I told them to get their act together.

So far 4 breeding males. Yes, they mate for life. Occasionally if a hen's mate isn't around she will breed with other males.

Ducks actually seem to do a lot better in snow than chickens. Are you getting eggs from them?

Canning pumpkin today . Blustery day outside . Firearm season so I will respectfully not cut firewood in my woods this weekend . Needed to get the squash and pumpkin moved in anyway . I think I will can the acorn squash this year . DW always waits until they rot to want some . So come February she is in the mood for squash . Basement is really too warm and garage is not heated enough to keep them when it hits zero outside . This way I will not have to sort them .

Sorry Jerry does not cuddle chickens . I am more likely to pull them out of trees the night before a show .

I can't remember the last time I saw an egg from any of my ducks. They started staying out in the pond at night....then, started getting eaten....now I have them penned up. I'm assuming they had a nest of eggs somewhere, but I couldn't find one. There's plenty of weed beds in the pond. I know my Muscovy's won't lay this winter, but I hope to get some from my KC's once they get settled into the life of boundaries.

My Dominique cockerels were disqualified for stubs.

I never saw them. They were so small. The judge must have super X-Ray vision to see them.

On the good side she wrote excellent body type on the ones card..

Next time I use a magnifying glass

I was clerking for Diana... You had to look on the feet and the feather stubs were apparent. The one was really bad and other only had a few.
