Surviving Minnesota!

I need to ramble on while I think about going outside.

I think Jerry could be correct on the brains in domed birds. It was kind of sleeting last night. I decided to go out at about midnight to check on my Toads and the Appletinnis.

I build the toads a nice roost about 16 inches off the ground. They refused to use it. They were huddled on the ground in their coop. I guess toads are too big to roost or too stupid. Maybe they are afraid of heights.

The Appletinnis have no excuse, they have always roosted in their cage. I moved them outside the other day after moving a coop and attaching it to their new run. I had rooster in it before so it had a 2 sided box in it to stay out of the weather. It was for summer weather not winter. The Appletinnis were split into 2 groups. 1 cockerel and 2 pullets on top the "box" and the rest huddled under the box. I left the ones under the box.

The ones on the top had a layer of ice building on their feathers. Appletinnis are small birds, not a lot of body weight to fight the cold and wet. I grabbed the cockerel and he started screaming bloody murder. It was more of a loud cry, almost the same volume and expression of agony as a dog that has been hit by a car. I put the cockerel into the coop, I grabbed the pullets and put them in, they screamed but it ended in a few seconds. I put them in the coop. I then walked to the house. When I went into the house the cockerel was still screaming in pain.

It then dawned on me, they are so different from humans. In Humans the male suffers in silence no matter how sick or hurt they are, where as the female makes sure everyone knows how sick or hurt she is. Even though it is a scientific fact Men feel pair way more than women do.....

And as the rambling continues....... Without getting too political. I am very anti-class action lawsuits. We got our latest example of why I hate them.

Some lawyers sued the "insurance companies" in Florida for over charging for flood and hurricane insurance in Florida for 5-6 years. We knew they were over charging, we were paying between $1,000 and $1,500 a month for flood and hurricane insurance, (this was in addition to our normal homeowners insurance)...

I am stupid, I get those little cards saying there is a class action lawsuit and saying we were involved and check the box and return it to get my refund. Now just so you do not have to do the math if we average it at the low end for 5 years we paid $60,000 in insurance.

The lawyers made millions on this suit. The settlement was huge I believe it approached a billion. The lawyers got 300 million plus expenses. Our check was 20 cents for the 5-6 years....

How infuriating! What also gets me is when you are the payback from a CAL is credit to use the offending parties service again! I was part of one that was against red box or Netflix maybe because they were colluding with Walmart illegally. They pay out was credits to download a movie from Walmarts website... hard pass on that one....

I did however like being in the CAL against an employer of mine when I was in college. They were imbezzeling our tip money (it was a valet service). They ended up paying out what they stole x2 which was awesome to me as a poor college kid. The guy who coordinated it go a couple hundred thousand...

I must have missed that CAL. We have rented close to 20 movies from them over the years. Mainly from Walmart stores!! I want my free rental...

The guy stealing your tips sounds like a small class. They are not as bad as the large ones where the lawyers make millions...

I am waiting for the lawsuit against the manufactures of chicken feed. I should get millions from them!

It was a couple millions dollars of payout from 6-7 years of embezzling. But relatively small to your insurance CAL yeah.

Speaking of making millions, I'm assuming none of you northerners are the lucky one who won the million dollar powerball ticket that was sold up near the St. Cloud area?

Or maybe they feel unlucky since they were one number off from winning a record size jackpot???

good morning....this weather sucks! It's raining then it's snowing, then it's raining again...our river is overflowing it's banks, our creek is flooding near our septic field and my pasture is a MUD POT!!!! My poor horses are ankle deep in mud...I mucked out the stalls yesterday and added extra shavings under the lean to so they could have some place semi dry to stand.

Yeah not a real pleasant day here either. Snow is falling but the ground isn't froze yet so it's wet.

Despite that I'm daydreaming about sheep today. Can't wait to get to work converting my fields to pastures next year. Maybe graze the hay field next year too? It's a slow day at work if you can't tell...
