Surviving Minnesota!

I JINXED MYSELF! A FRACKEN HAWK TOOK ONE OF MY ROOSTERS OUT! NOT A BUCKEYE THANK GOD BUT STILL! At least it was a small Bantam he could carry away and not waist I hope. It does save me some time since I would have been butchimg him in a few days anyways. So I am left with one cockerel to get rid of.

Anybody need one :p He sure is a pretty little guy and would make a great flock add addition!

So this happened today

My "americana/americauna/whatever mutts are finally giving me something!! They were hatched on August 29th so it's been a long and annoying wait. Note- these are indeed normal sized eggs. My hands are just "childsized". Do you know how hard it is to try to hold 3 eggs in a child sized hand?!

Question --------- somebody was "cooing" when I was just out there doing chores. What does that mean..................??????? I have 2 older hens and 8 younger-just-coming-of-age hens..... All seemed well? Are they excited to be laying eggs and have to express how proud they are?

My EE's are always slow layers. I'm impressed you're getting nice big eggs like that at 20 weeks!

Not sure on the cooing. My ladies give out a low growl when another hen is trying to hop in the same nest box. Perhaps you heard a little warning. The egg song around my coops are loud and bit dramatic.

If this one gets eaten by a hawk, I have one just like it you can have. maybe 2.

@Bogtown Chick , I was just reading about lye and soap making. Holy crap. I'll probably burn my arms off. I may already be over my soap making adventure! Now I'll have to get more chickens to occupy my microscopic bit of free time.

Another summer project.

Cleaning up the old smokehouse as a surprise for my dad. The door fell off years ago and there's birds nests, and stuff all over the floor..

Hey! For the low price of driving over here we could teach you! We make a lot of it and my mom actually helps make it at the Western Minnesota Steam Threshers Reunion in Rollag MN.
