Surviving Minnesota!

......I think my chickens are all going b@tsh*t crazy. The hens are noisy as all heck; no one is laying like they should (haha....hahah...like they ever do???) and today Rooster Elvis flogged my DH. Then tried to take me. Then again this afternoon. So I broke a bucket throwing it at him. Noooo....I do not have any anger management issues. And for the record I did hit my mark. Twice

Is it just the ridiculous spring weather and they are all coo-coo??? Any one else's birds being naughty?

So you weren't with us when I had Tom Hanks - who hates men. Even at his new home where they are fenced. Ralphie taught me how to be dominant but the DH and DS refused to participate. It worked real well for me. LOL. Poor Tom. Anyone remember the story about his broken beak?

That's funny! I don't find mine to be as chatty. I have noticed my SS hens leave the roost at night when I go out to tuck them all in. They stand outside the coop like, "oh crap, it's dark out". I'm surprised an owl hasn't taken advantage of those poor choices yet.

Dominique's are a little bit lighter with their barring, right? I think the roosters are very pretty! I still want to get some Bucks this year. Where did you get your little ones from?

@lvie , have you been putting something on your RIR? I love, love, love blu-kote. I think some people use the vetericyn as well. She's lucky to have the warmer weather right now =)

Yes, I have used Blue Kote and my understanding is that product is more to discourage hens from pecking at the bare hen. I have used Bag balm on them, plain yogurt in their feed, did a molasses cleanse yesterday, ACV in the water today, tomorrow is electrolytes. Lottsa protein and I confess I have kept her warm with a heat lamp. I wonder if she will lay again. From what I am reading sometimes they don't. This was not a molt. Well . . . . maybe some of it was a molt. All the reading I am doing says a molt starts by loosing feathers in the neck area. That has never happened. I believe this is a yeast infection am treating it as so. Finally ordered Nu Stock BC. Should have done that 10 days ago.

I have left three sacrifice eggs in the nesting box I created in the nesting area. This afternoon a CA was laying on them. Then a BA and then a SS and then a RIR. Only the CA laid another egg with them. When I last looked at them they were pushed out of that nest box I created and pushed into a corner of the coop. I left them there but thought that was interesting. Is that normal for a hen to move the eggs to where she will sit on them?

My broodies never did that but I've heard others say the hens have moved eggs.

My Marans that has been broody many times- she will be 5 yrs in April, is molting. If she won't go broody I hope another does.

Ralphie you crack me up with those CL questions and answers. Sad thing is that I know they are real scenarios. Dumb. Or just want it my way right away. Don't you do eggs like McDonalds? Lol.

Good for you ivie. It's different. It like dries and seems chalkie after applying it. But I guess that's how it is. I made a compound of it with the eucalyptus and need to reapply on the laying hens.

Still lots of snow up here so no free ranging yet. Hopefully with this warming trend we'll get some grass time soon.
