We were told the coop needs to be well ventilated, but now I'm concerned we got carried away and they'll be too exposed during our frigid Duluth winters. Any suggestions?
Also, we thought we were done, then decided to do an addition to accommodate room for indoor food and water in the winter.

During the summer this should be fine but it will be a little chilly in the winter! Can you make covers for those vents for in the winter? Maybe just leave half of one open in the winter?

Minnesotanice I love my EEs too! I think we are going to change to a flock of mostly Green and Blue layers as people love those eggs for eating and hatching. But of course my Australorps are staying and a few other breeds. Then the Orps and Bucks will be my breeds to breed from for myself and a few others. I also want to sell my Cochin Bantam roo and keep the hens for broodies and do another standard breed.

I would close some of the vents or put doors on them so they could be closed in winter.

IMHO you want the door and vent above the door so they can get out of the draft but the moisture gets carried away. Closing the vent above the nest box and above the doors in the winter would do that I think.

GC is not very friendly, I cannot touch her,  I can hold OC now and then, He eats up the attention when I do pet him. GC seems to like people and gets close to me, follows me but does not let me touch her.  I am guessing she comes from an abusive holm..:gig

GC sounds like a good cat! Whoever taught that cat the ways of the kitty world sure knew what they were doing! GCs mom was always like that but after she matured she started liking people!
