Surviving Minnesota!

Ahh yes the chicken wire. That was the hubby's "get started before consulting the wife" contribution which he actually stapled in under the window frames. I don't think we have weasels around here but we do have raccoons. My dad actually used hardware mesh in the cupola. I'll have to figure a gentle way to break it to him that we should maybe replace that .... "thank you for doing all this work but ..." yeesh :D

Canby has weasels,,Everywhere in Mn has weasels, minks and nasty little sharp teeth critters..

Elise,, What are the directions to your place so I can pick up my new coop? That is an amzing coop!
Ahem.... MY coop.

Everywhere period has nasty sharp teeth critters, & the damage they can do in a night is remarkable and quite terrifying.

Jerry, you're a life saver..
A mint one?

Ivie all you need is some PVC pipe (size is up to you), two caps for the PVC. Then all you need is a drill and a 3/8" drill bit and put a hole where you want your cup to be. You can get water cups at any feed store and it's like $5 for a pack of 3

Ralphie I have my two Legbar hens if you want me to bring one... They aren't perfect specimens but they will add birds...

Thanks Destiny!

I am going to set some cochin eggs Saturday night. I have got 3 blue females with the black cockerel. Hopefully I can get some good chicks.
I am still waiting for the person with the Langshans to get back to me. They still were not sure last week so I will contact them again sometime this week.
I have to double check with my mom today about Hutch. Can anyone give me dates and times of stuff? I have a volleyball game on the 31 so I need to be back by the 30.
Someone else from ND is thinking about coming depending on if her and her husbands birds are in condition. They have Orloffs, Sumatras, Polish, and a silver leghorn. They got Champion and Reserve AOSB, Champion Continental, and Reserve Mediteranean in Open show at state fair.
I have to contact Rick Klehr sometime. Craig said I should just in case he has anything for sale. So I am to hunt down his number today.
Also if any of you know of someone looking for Icelandics or Swedish Flower Hens I am getting rid of mine

We have two small black barn cats we inherited with our property. They are said to be good natured and they have started coming closer to us. There is the groundhog we've seen that I mentioned last week. With the help of binoculars and google, we are pretty sure on that ID. Then my husband has seen a "golden cat" on the property. Not for sure if it's an actual cat or not. Now we've seen another very large black "cat". Not enough sightings to confirm if it is an actual cat or not. (Too fast for binocs so far.) Hubby has seen it multiple times in daylight, from a distance, in the area the groundhog inhabitats. It moves quickly, and cat-like, but is much larger than our intended barn cats. Hubby got nervous when I mentioned fisher and he looked that up - but it's out and about in the day, and has probably a smoother gait than a fisher. I think I startled the same animal when I went out the other day. One of my dogs was in the small fenced area next to the driveway, and the "cat" was on the other side of my car from the dog. It bolted like a shot, so fast I couldn't get a look at it, except it seemed like it had a cat tail. I'm hoping that whatever animals are on the property aren't too dangerous, since the small barn cats seem to have gotten on alright. Our dogs are big, but they are also vulnerable due to their age and one of them being nearly deaf, plus being contained in this small fenced area. We should have better fencing within a month. We'll definitely have to sort out what animals are regularly creeping about before adding birds...

Edit: My dogs are not out all the time - just house dogs, but one likes to hang out outside for up to an hour by herself.
