Surviving Minnesota!

So first thing's first, gotta get that weather vane up, that's the most important right?

Got most of the shingles up, still need a few more (I swear I can do math). And we need to figure out a ridge cap.

And we replaced the back siding with all new so we can reuse any of the more decent drop siding for the front so it matches. COuldn't find drop siding so we had to use car siding in the back. And I'll have to figure out how to do a wash to tint this stuff gray so it matches the rest of the coop's weathered wood.

Still haven't tackled the rest of the interior so the poor "chicks" are gonna have to wait a little longer.

That looks great!!

It's just been a couple of nights, but the chickens appear to want to huddle together in or near the nesting boxes at night rather than roost.

I've moved them out of the nesting boxes a few times and they seem to get that now.

Should I just let them figure it out? Do I need to crawl in and put them on the roosts? I can't really reach that well.

How old are they TFred? If adolescents they might just take a bit. But if you want to go out with a flash light when it's dark and try popping them up there they might just stay put and like it from there on out. If they are adolescents they may still like the comfort of the 'nest' yet. But they'll quickly replace it with the safer feeling of a higher perch.

2 more days only with those chick babies. Then they head south to watch the eclipse I guess? Lol. MNchickMom they are so sweet in there. There's some dark ones in there with russet colored faces and extra cheek fuzz. They are like teddy bears. I will have to ask Jerry about those. I know he's working on something with a brown feather gene.

8 quarts of Russian dills. So good...

Lawn mowed for this month. I seriously think I've only mowed 3-4 times this summer. And you all know how I am about my lawn...

RV cleaned out and prepping for Fall Lake Ely trip. I wonder if my chanterelles are waiting for me...

It sounds like they hatched in March. I expect them to start laying soon. The rooster is a little younger.
