Surviving Minnesota!

Erli for leg problems I've found a lot of sources recommending B complex in the water. Break a vitamin caplet in 1/2 per gallon of water. Do this with fresh water and a fresh 1/2 caplet every day as the vitamin does lose its Umph after a day in water . I've corrected some weird leg stuff doing this. The vit B complex turns water yellow. B complex has niacin and thiamine.

Hello, fellow Minnesotans! I'm new to this thread, so hope you all don't mind a newbie jumping on board. Live in the "heart of the lakes" area with our small flock. We have one hen who goes broody every year. She's currently raising four chicks that we bought from Meyers. They are about 3.5 weeks old, doing very well, and are super cute! Hope they get all their feathers soon - it's been a cool August, and now we're into Sept. Bet they're glad they have a warm mama to snuggle under at night!

Maybe the hot wet has brought it out of the soil. Those are the symptoms I have seen and read about....I think Jerry called it limberneck a month or so ago...

I cannot say a few birds is an epidemic. But I have thought about toto tilling the runs to aereate the soil.
I'll have to read up on it. Been cool and dry here so I can't say the conditions were the same that y'all are getting, but who knows....

:frow Welcome to the thread.

Jerry....are you talking about "Surprise Lilies" or "Naked Lady" lilies? They appear on a tall stalk no leaves and are usually pink? If that's what your talking about, they are Belladonna Lilies and their zone is 7-10.

Ralph....friend of mine had a late hatch of SS. I caved & adopted two. My current SS hens are all old ladies and I can't bare to not have them in my flock! Such cuties...and typical of SS, I stick my hand in the broader & they have to come over to investigate. Just love this breed! My friends daughter showed her SS. But now is in collage & mom is left with the residual flock. She decided to let one SS hen brood a batch. They are hard to find around here....so I'm ecstatic to get a few babies!!

Banty you're making me feel like you're from a southern state...ya'll... it's a handy conjugation.

Welcome mnmom3941. The babies sound cute.
I picked it up on here. I haven't ever said it in real life. Haven't heard it either except once from a store clerk that sounded very southern-y.

Thanks that's a good idea I will do that today.
