Surviving Minnesota!

Tfred- I hope things turn around for you. I feel your pain, I have a 10 year old that met the max out ofc pocket for insurance in January the last 2 years.
As for the dominques, if you get them straight from Duane Urch please watch them closely, I had 2 pullets that were disqualifed due to telescoped spike on rear of comb. I also purchased some from ralphie and they did not have the telescopes spike. Live and learn.

These trials and tribulations with children may well become more grey hair producing as they advance in age. I think back to my mid to late teens, and I conclude that I was a troublemaker. I paid dearly when my own boys reached a similar age. What goes around comes around as they say.
When my boys were young people would remark about how well behaved they were, but at adolescence something happened. In truth they were spoiled and used to getting whatever they desired. Make your children too busy to get into mischief. Try not to work 60 and 70 hours a week so that you can spend quality time with family. Don't run out of charcoal so steak can be prepared to the children's liking.
My own personal philosophy is that cooking is for the wife to do. I will do the dishes as compensation, but in truth the dish washer does most of them.

On a different subject. Ralphie, how do you find the temperament on the Dominique's compared to other breeds ?

Morning all.

EJB.. I think the verb is the wrong tense in your sentence "I was a trouble maker"...:lau

I find the Doms to have the same demeanor as any other breed with the exception on the SS, They are not natural cuddlers like the SS are. They are not flighty but not under foot so you trip on them either. They are not aggressive to other birds.

As far as the combs go, as MnChickmom said, they need to be watched. I do not have the points like she had disqualified, but I have some that are NOT going to ever reproduce here. Some are short, some have "canyons" in the middle some wrap down the back of the head. Some have huge points. The ones she had were strange they were more like bad pimples than a straight gradual point like they should have. I have no idea why hers had them and mine not, beings they all came from Urch.

Mine were my second year of hatching though so I had input as the the parents is the only difference. If you do want some I have several extra "show quality" birds of both sexes and a bunch of layer/pet quality.....

EJB you really need to try a SS with your Cuddling habits..:lau:lau:lau:lau:lau:lau:lau:lau:lau

Today is Mite and lice day. DARN!!! I have so many birds I cannot look at them all. So I pick one or two look at it and figure it is ok...I suppose I end up looking at the same birds because I never chase real hard to get the flightier ones...Holm took a few of my birds home the other day and he found lice or mites on one,,ewwwwwwww.. I really appreciate his telling me. Now I can spend the day touching every bird I own...Lucky me..
Actually I think I will do inside birds and a few pens. I am not up to doing all the birds today..I have way too many..

Does anyone want a toad? One toad! I really screwed up this hatch. Being sick and doctoring and all, I forgot to turn the turntable on so the eggs did not turn for 2 weeks...

I just checked and I have 1 baby out of 50 eggs. When I candled and moved to the hatcher I moved 4. They might hatch but I doubt it.. Toads make great pets, and they can be tasty if anyone wants one..

Tfred want me to drop one by on my way North Friday?.....

Erlibrd I think you need one? Want me to drop one by???
OH Judy is going to Longville For lunch too, You want us to pick you up on the way north,,,,when we drop off your toad?

Well, that's about it for today.

And Santa might deliver you a new 2018 F350 crew cab 4x4 truck!!
Can he get me one too?

I don't believe in driving Fords so I hope not! I'm a Chevy boy:p
shhhhh, you can always sell the ford and buy a chevy!

5 y/o in ER possible fractured arm. Didn't have enough charcoal, undercooked steak. Force other 3 fighting children to eat medium rare steak. Try to get them to get along so I can make some work-related phone calls in quiet while DW still at hospital.....

How's your night going?
:hugs sounds like quite the night

Monkey bars. No fracture. Wife is a pediatric RN. She's shocked it's not broken. Pretty swollen and turning colors already. He'll live.

Look, I'm aware how fortunate we are to have a pretty good life. I'm thankful for it.....but some nights........these kids.......
glad its not broken but sounds awfully painful

send it east, with a few turkeys and legbars
lol

I have lice and mites in my flock too. As I came out of the coop after ivermectin drops I saw eastern wild turkeys walking down the driveway. Thank you wild friends for your gifts.

I did not put on the broody however as I don't want some in-Huevo abnormality to occur with the chick and that chemical. So when the chick hatches (any day now) I'll get drops on that snapping bitty. Who knows with her separation she will be free of them. Doubtful.

Great video and perfect song. TFred wait until they are 15. The boy irritates the crap out of the girl and eggs her on. The girl slams bedroom doors shut rattling the house. And you will wish they were 5 again. This was my life last night. 15 year old boy appalled that we think it was his fault. Goes to bed mad too. Lordy.
Hormones are some powerful Ju-ju.

Judy?! tell her to pack the buck knife in her purse!
Lol

Ed are you doing classes on how to train a husband to do dishes? All good advice on kids.
We have things down pretty good I think. Winter sports season gets a little harried. But we eat a lot of meals together. They've got summer jobs. (Huge self worth boost for them to be working) I recommend for every teen.

But slightly spoiled too, I'm sure!

BC, , being an old opinionated man, I could not agree more.

. If more kids would have summer or part time jobs versus whatever else they do the economy of the family units would be better. The kids would learn responsibility and a work ethic they cannot learn at home.

My kids always had summer or part time jobs, they have done great and have awesome jobs now, I think partially because we forced them to get jobs and work for others.
