So tar paper is on and door is in . Did some lumber rearranging in the shed . Got to make room to store camper and boat . Need to cut and move some slab wood . I will start saw milling in a few days . So that pile has to go elsewhere . Janet is going shopping today . So I will be without my truck for a few hours . Think I will work on the stairs while she is gone .

I am planning to leave here at 8 tomorrow, that will get me to Emily at 10. Because my rider is a tad slow sometimes, I figure 10:15. (she will require One more coffee stop than me. She always insists on a bathroom to drain excess coffee off)...

Okay - so what are the rest of the plans? You will be going right by our new place if you go 169 to 3 and 3 to Emily. We are just off 3 on 405th Place. Exciting.

So my next experiment...Make some Production or Sexlink birds.

I have been doing some research I have a nice looking and fairly large Rhode Island Red Cockerel (from Duane Urch) to cover either the Barred Rock Hens (1 year old hatchery stock but good layers) or I can use the Dominique Pullets that are 6 months old. I have found soooo much conflicting info about creating your own Sexlinks.

One of the myths I found (on a Facebook Chicken group) that I want to prove wrong is that you can NOT make a sexlink from anything other than Single Combed breed. The little devil in me says to hatch one and post a picture captioned..."I told you so" but hopefully the angel in me keeps my fingers at bay.

The only reason I am pulling the Doms into the mix is for the smaller comb here in the north country.

I am looking for opinions and experiences. Anyone care to share.

I will be traveling north on 6, I have no idea where 3 is...

@erlibrd I will bring the lonely little toad, she looks so small in the hatcher all by her/his self. Make sure you friend knows it will grow big and fast. It will also be the friendliest bird they have.

It is a dual purpose bird. Mine lay 5-6 eggs a week. If they want to it it that is fine with me too. I just can't raise a singleton.

Looking Good - I hope we have a long gorgeous fall.

I doubt the comb makes a difference. I think this is a myth, myself, Jerry would know. Being the sex link is from the male having 2 barring genes and the female having one color gene and the sex gene , I Think you would want a Male Dom over a female RIR... That is just my gut feeling on that,

I believe there are some Rhodebars or something like that have been done. Lady of McCalmley I think had some.... I was on a broody hen thread with her once and I'm sure she had something of the sort. They looked beautiful.

Okay it mentions a different breed over RIR hens to make Rhodebars.

MNchickmom making sex links is pretty easy with the right birds. My first year ever I did Welbars. I had a lot of Barred Rock hens and a Welsummer rooster... Or did I use my Barred rock too over my Welsummers... I can't remember... I think it would have had to been te Welsummer roo over BR hens... I had so many different birds then that I can't even remember...
