Surviving Minnesota!

Nope he was easy to catch. He and I are gonna be buddies... I can already tell lol. He is a sweet rooster. The hen is kinda batty but she likes flying up on the cages when I let them out and watch me. I am gonna make both of these guys friendly. And I think when I am done with quarantine I will just let these guys roam in my cage room so I have that extra cage. Then the rooster tail will be able to stay nice and not get beat up from the cage walls

Hopefully you catch some coons! Those traps work wonders! Put some tiny marshmallows in there and crack an egg over top and they can't resist it!

Now you tell me, I used peanut butter...jiffy

That should work too! We catch them on dog food or gummy bears too. They just seem to really like the marshmallows and eggs. Switching it up every once in awhile and moving your traps help. Other wise the biggest get too smart!

Regarding the problematic rooster situation. I know Ralphie can handle things because he has considerable experience in training various animals.
The important issue is to understand how the animal is thinking. Roosters are motivated to act or react out of fear or protection of territory. Knowing that is over half the battle. Then one must use their own intelligence to condition the bird to a desired response or behavior. With children involved it is somewhat difficult because in many cases they act in a manner similar to the birds. They don't think and analyze the situation they just do what comes spontaneously.

Morning all, I win.

First off, NO! You are disqualified. You need to live in Minnesota to win and at least our time zone. Living in Eastern Maritime time people are not allowed to win,,,,Also this contest is open to US Citizens only, There is a big sign next to the winners circle that says "No Canooks"

He is getting better, But he has a long ways to go, I am thinking of isolating him so he sees only me and no other living being. I have found birds and even PITA roosters are social animals and will become lonely if they cannot see any other critters. That might help him attach himself to me.

None of my Chanticler are "friendly" like Cuddles is, but Cuddles is the exception with roosters, IMHO.

Ed, the original Chanticler I go from you is not mean but he does not really love being handled. Weinerhead is better than he was last year, but like Ed he does not seek out my company. Knucklehead is Weinerheads kid.

He is worse than Knucklehead last year, but he will take down. I just want him to the point he does not eat the judge in Hutch. When MnChickmom says the judge put Knothead above Weinerhead because of his attitude she is telling the truth....BUT I look at them very critically and when I see Knucklehead, I see a bird that could potentially win the Nationals.

Knucklehead is the bird I showed a picture of on the Chanticler website and it is because of Knucklehead that Mike Gilbert wants one of my cockerels. To me if Mike Gilbert wants one of my birds I have done it right.

I rank him up there just a tad below Jerry who to me is the chicken genetics God.

All that said, I am thinking of using mind altering drugs on Knucklehead to see if that makes him lovable...

BTW Grats on winning today EJB!!!
