Surviving Minnesota!

Technically, the machine shed is my brooder house in the spring, when I kick out DH stuff for my chicks while it is still cold. But once it starts getting warmer, say May, the young birds go into the other house and it's a machine shed again....
My lack of organization also doesn't help, and is a terrible excuse.

First thing woulf
have been to go to the fair this year just to see how it works, but its to late for that.
I did not read through all of the pages from Monday through today, so I am not sure if you habe figured out what your county does in terms of classes, but this is what my county has. There are 9 classes, Chicken Breeding Class-Standard Breeds:

Intermediate ages 12-14
Senior ages 15-18
(Ages are according to your age on September 1, 2017)

There is also a limit to 12 birds, 2 per breed per class.

That is what I can remember off the top of my head so some of it may be off, but I do no think it is.

In terms of caging it should be done beforehand. Some birds take it fairly well, and others don't. My first year(2014) I did not practice caging and it went fine. But a lot of birds do not tolerate it so well. Seeming as it is your first year I am assuming you do not want to go all out. Instead of having the bird in a cage all the time for a while before, you can just put it in for an hour or so after working with it. And if you do bathe which I am assuming you will do as you have Brahmas, you should probably put it in a cage with woodchips afterwards, so that the bird stays clean.

THERE YOU ARE ILLS! WE HAVE BEEN MISSING YOU! ITS GOOD TO HEAR FROM YOU.

Hello Chickeners . . . . I have a question that maybe you can help me with. Its about that little CLB pullet who is such a sweetie. She acts weird, looking like she is having a seizure - like she is going to vomit but never does. She does not put on weight. She does get food into her crop and empties it out by morning. Any ideas of what could be wrong? I

Yes! Long time no typing. Volleyball has had me really busy.
I haven't been on for a while, so just to catch up, I stary varsity as a middle blocker, I think we have played 4 games. We got the first win of the season, not counting tournaments, last night! 5 sets, we won the 2nd, 3rd, and 5th. I had about 8 blocks, 1 away from the record. And I think 6 kills, one of them was an overpass on the opposing teams part that I hit back at the 10 foot line, I am rating that as my best kill this whole year.
Chickens are all doing good, I think I am downsizing for winter, I am going to possibly butcher all of the NNs this weekend excpet maybe 4. They are good birds but I just don't want to take them into the winter. In January I am going to order 30 RSLs and 30 BSLs. I do not want to deal with any cockerels again, I only has 3 this last time out of the 40, but it is still annoying

She is approx 5 month and came to me from a friend who had many chicks this spring and they did not fare well. Yes, I wormed last Thursday for one day and then removed the water. So I assume all the chickens (18 of them) drank from the water. Would worming a pullet be hard on her system?

Worming can be but it depends on worm load, have you checked her for mites? They will suck the life right out
What wormer did you use? And what dosing?

Yeah I'm hoarding my eggs now the 99centers can suck it. I only sell or give to people I know enjoy them. That being said my Ee is laying now I love a funny colored egg in the mix. Also felt sorry for one of my girls as one laid a extra large egg. I always feel for em when that happens.

It appears as though all went to bed early yesterday ? Erlibrd is not early this morning.
It rained very little yesterday and is not forecast here until perhaps this afternoon we could see some showers. We have not had freezing temperatures yet but that will likely happen soon.
There is a funny article in the Duluth News Tribune this morning about a grouse hunters dog being chased by a wolf or wolves actually. To a degree it demonstrates to me the nuisance that these animals actually are. The dog seems to have a higher degree of intelligence than the members of Howling For Wolves ? He would not leave the truck and go into the woods for the rest of the day. He only got away from the wolf by leaping through the open window of the truck.
