Surviving Minnesota!

2 eggs from the Cochins today, one from BF1 and one from BLF3.
I think my concern with the previous eggs I set now is that all my previous set eggs were frozen. Ugh I hate this weather. Next year my dad suggested putting heat tape in the nest boxes to try and prevent frozen eggs. I hope it works

Good morning to all. Another day which would definitely be defined as part of winter.
Tfred, this is how I look at it. A hen will only lay a fixed number of eggs in it's life. I have decided that I most prefer to collect them in spring, summer or autumn. If they lay them and they become frozen and crack I am not happy, but that does happen. The Ravens then get a free meal and I want them to stay around.
I don't like the way February has started or the forecast thus far, but I am hopeful that things will improve. Free ranging has been limited and the birds are anxious for it to return.
