Surviving Minnesota!

Those of you with no bare ground yet, I would suggest you move to a location on a hill. When it warms as it has recently and the sun shines you will have significant bare ground for the birds.
Even here where there is yet about 3 feet of show on the flat ground I have nice bare ground for my chickens to free range.
Jerry, I don't think Ralphie has time to work on additional Turkey color varieties, as he is still in Politician mode it seems ?

Ed, Saw some deer grazing on the sunny slopes of the ditches yesterday. I know it won't be long.

I doubt I could get DH to move to a Windy hill top of a Northern Great Lake. LOL. Brrr.
I loved Duluth when I went to school there. It met all my needs but summers there were cool and the lake never warmed enough for swimming until August and of course...Summer is about done then. Summers are the deal breaker.

Holms get out that camera.

I don't know if I should get chicks this spring. All of my 8 hens are productive. I've got eggs in my fridge galore. Need to make some quiche or something. 9 birds is a perfect number in that coop.

I don't want to jinx myself either. But if Foxy Loxy returns while we're free ranging then IDK....

Morning . Hey BC do you have bare ground yet ?

Oh boy, No. We are having cold nights and Warmer days now. But It's usually a good way to keep the moisture in the ground. The warm nights although melt everything faster just make for dried up springs. It's a good thing I must tell myself. Lots of big snow piles out there. But sunnyside of ditches are letting go and deer are grazing. Same color as the grass too might I say. Hard to see the beasts. We are a good 3-4 weeks behind last year I would say. But last year was a warm one.

I have three feet everywhere :tongue

Want some? We have a good 13" more in the forecast last I checked.

Well last night was the start of kidding season for the Nigerian's. My mom called and all she said was help, so I ran over to home to help. There was one stuck and she couldn't figure it out. I, for some reason, am a very good baby un-tangler. I have really small hands, and can find a way to visual what I'm feeling. 3 of the 4 were alive. There was a dead baby blocking the way for the last 2 to come out. Since it was still chilly last night they got to come in to warm up, and hopefully now will be able to stay out with mom. She raised triplets last year with no issues at all. 2 doelings, and one buckling (black and white).

Ignore the snap banner, I was sending it to someone and then decided to save it.

Nice and sunny here today. I traded the last of my Icelandic chicks that were leaving for 13 goose eggs and 1 duck egg. My aunt and a friend are taking the goslings if they hatch. My new Icelandic roo is almost mature so I will have fertile Icelandic eggs again soon. If anyone is interested, I would love to trade for OEGB eggs or Dwarf Olandsk eggs.

Do you sell eggs at all? All I'd have for trade would be hatchery stock Buckeye eggs, or BLRW eggs. I'd have to separate for a while too to make sure they were pure as I have them all mixed together at the moment. My mom has mentioned the Icelandics before so it would be fore her is she were interested, and if you live in Kellogg we aren't very far apart, I'm just down 61 in Winona. I had OEGB until last fall of course haha
