We just call a wood dux box a Dux coffin up here...but to be honest it is a waste of wood when you could use them for Fox bait or compost instead.

If you do think she's broody and you leave her, just make sure to mark the eggs you give her. I draw a circle around mine so I can tell at a glance which eggs are hers, and which ones are donated by the other hens.

How do you pull the eggs out to mark them? Do you move her off? Just reach under her? During the week, I'm concerned that we won't be around when she's off the nest.

Well, I usually mark them before I give them to her. Then while she's setting, I'll go in once a day and quickly lift her up, glance and grab the eggs that don't belong and put her down. If I'm lucky, I'll get out there when she's out taking care of her daily constitutional.

Thanks all... They postponed my grandmas surgery from today to tomorrow as they didn’t have any blood that matched hers... It’s a very scary surgery for sure... At her age any surgery is high risk... God has a plan for everything but sometimes I wonder what it is... I guess all we can do is say a prayer and wait now...
