2 or 3 years ago one of my pulleys laid a fairy egg. I wanted to keep it so I put it in an interior window sill intending to search ways to preserve it. I never did. Today my 3 year old took it down and broke it. Inside was an amber-color crystal-like substance. I can't find anything about this online, but I think it's SO interesting I want to try recreating it with a larger egg. Lol. Does anyone know what this called?

The fairy egg , peanut egg or egg fart are just membrane flaked off in the oviduct (sometimes a bit of yolk ) anyway egg white is added in proportion to size of material then shell is applied . Egg shell being porous and the small egg dries out as yours did .

@jerryse I knew I was correct, I am not color blind, it was a brown chick..

Actually, it can be hard to tell the PC from the SS when they first hatch. The PC are a little lighter on the chest and belly. If they have enough of a comb to see if it is single or cushion works too. BUT I can seldom tell those apart at that age.
