Surviving Minnesota!

Oh, I found some old pictures of I think just before they were a year old, 6 months to a year, and they are 2 now. Their hackles have lightened some now, and more of the orange-y color, but they were that super dark mahogany at first. they are gorgeous, they came from good breeding stock. They were out of birds purchased from Foley. Not Foley bred, but someone else bred Foley's together lol.

OH my gosh Hmarg....they are stunning. The Black is so unique. I've never seen those before.
That being said I do like the blues, despite the uniqueness of the other. Just something about them. Have always liked the BLRW.
I have no doubts about their health seeing them there, and despite the molt. Looks like feathers are coming in good.

Just gorgeous.

Well there has been no rush of people wanting them, so if you decide you'd like to come get one, or someone you know is coming through here and will bring one back for you, I'll send him on his way. The black is just the black part of the blue/black/splash since the blue lacing works the same as the full body color. You don't see black very often because I think people don't hold onto them, or they're too close in color to Golden Laced Wyandottes? Most hens that I see of the BLRW variety are actually splash laced. I just try to be as accurate as possible when describing them since some people get mad if you lump them and don't differentiate. I actually have one of each hen left, a blue, black, and splash laced, I just realized that now while typing.

You can see my splash laced hen heading away from the water, and the rear of my blue laced hen sticking up in the picture lol. That is also one of the two roosters that I'll be keeping, I prefer this blue, to the darker ones I posted earlier for you.

I just love these guys and wish I had the set-up I wanted so I could breed them like I've been trying (and failing) to do... sigh

Long term with the Blrw to keep the mahogany color rich and dark, I believe breeders need to breed back to a black laced bird. That does not produce the splash laced that everyone wants but is best for the breed.

That is why I have been holding on to him for so long since he's been my only black laced, but most of my hens have been picked off by wildlife and I can't justify it anymore. It kills me since I wanted to try to breed them, but it just doesn't work at the house I'm at, there's not enough room. They are so gorgeous, and I would feel bad eating them. I've already had to butcher a couple I hatched and I felt bad. One was a gorgeous splash laced. I know that's not a color to keep for breeding, but his red was so dark, it was stunning. Please come get them? haha!

So I have a womens conference tonight yay me. And the secretary (human) is having some major issues with a abusive prick she lives with. The butler (black cat named robert) is slowing down with the cold as his age at 13 yrs now. He still runs to the door to greet me when I come in. Baby sitters mom is helping me by um rescuing some chickens. 13 hens 3 roos. I'm not gonna tell the lady I'm getting them from that if I dont like the roos they will be stew pot birds. My truck finally gave out RIP Ford you gave a hard 270k miles , so I been "grounded" but now waiting on a bit of goodwill from my congregants to get the new to me ford. I hope these rescue birds are a decent addition as she says they are 2 yrs old. I dont quite understand why people say that hens over 2 arnt good layers. I been fine with the amount I get. Also my pretty birds are darn ugly right now. The molt has begun
