Surviving Minnesota!

Selling calves tomorrow. Another day I get to miss school, I will be missing a lot this month.
Also I have a pair and a trio of LF Black Cochins. I would love to sell them more locally than taking them down to Knoxville....

One year ago today, the ground looks a lot different...

Good morning to all you late risers and you too Ralphie.
My chickens have not been allowed to free range for 4 days but will be out today. They find bare spots to scratch around and entertain themselves especially when I scatter scratch there.
I am looking forward to some words of wisdom here since I am not providing any myself.

Never fry bacon naked.

Good Morning!
I’m looking forward to the one day warm up scheduled for tomorrow.
Last night, I earned the daughter in law of year award for helping cut up my father in laws deer.

The new chickens are doing well, especially for being thrown into some crazy MN weather. I will have to get pictures as soon as life slows down a bit. We are looking to set up some test hatches shortly, to test fertility. Thankfully, we narrowed our breeds to Buckeyes and Orpington. We did however step into the world of bantams. This should be a interesting adventure. One of the bantam buckeyes has been practicing frequently. The black Orpington (bantam) just started laying, I hope to be able to set some of her eggs in January.

Holms, you may be referring to the show in Hutchinson the dame day. The only Pouters at our event were a pair of Horseman's which was a raffle prize. Only racing pigeons in the auction.
I am down to two Damascenes but am looking for another pair or two.
I have thought about the Trumpeters from time to time, but have held off on acquiring any.
If I were to add more breeds would likely be Hamburg Stickens or Egyptian Swifts ? Both are difficult to find in quality stock.
Ooh I really like the look of the Egyptian Swifts. Neat birds.

I can’t say I like the Trumpeters more than the Horseman but I do like them a lot. Very good flyers haha
