Surviving Minnesota!

say it isn't so :hit

If I have anything to do with it....I will try to help out. We have a small flock of Toads from Ralphie. We are hoping for "fairer" weather to prevent frozen eggs. We have a great new sire over 5 proven Pullets.

However, on the Buckeye front....someone is next in line Guest of Honor at a Soup Supper in his honor. We have this particular buckeye male that has turned on us. Well mainly my 2 grown children and I. He doesn't like when we move his broody wife out of the nest box and steal her eggs. Today, he thought flogging the hand that feeds him was a smart choice. Well.....little does he know he better be on his best behavior because the same hand that feeds him also feeds herself (chicken noodle soup).

Buff Orpingtons - I am done collecting eggs as we have enough chicks hatched, and a few more left in the incubator.

I have been struggling a bit to get my bantams to lay, but hopefully, the longer days will prove to be in my favor. We moved the bantam buckeyes to a new pen and it seems to have stalled their egg eating. Artifical light is great and all but I think they know when the real daylight comes around it is time to ramp up the laying.

In the next couple of weeks my daughter and I will have a couple of 4H speaking engagements in which we will discuss showmanship, class exhibits and overall raising of poultry (primarily chickens). Wish her luck!

Husband and son went fishing over the weekend, and of course Mr. Tip Up set them but didn't catch anything.

Happy Valentine's Day to all....Hopefully, everyone is spending time with their loved one(s). We will be spending Valentine's with our son's teachers at conferences.

I though you only had Hoover as a toad roosters...Where did you get a great one?

I am going to get pictures of the chicks today...The toad looks like a buckeye chick and not toad,,,so weird.

Morning...
cold again....ground is still covered with 3 feet of white fungi...

I am not even sure I can get out on the lake because of the fungi...

The next fungi drop is scheduled to start shortly after noon. Looking at the 10 day forecast is depressing.. Nothing above freezing, just more below zero and fungi drops.

I lost a toad yesterday, My Pullet. I am afraid this maybe my fault, I had given her to Hoover. After Hoover jumped bail, I put her back in the other toad pen. Apparently the toads have a keen sense of justice and considered her a Hoover Groupie....... I am afraid the future of toads is bleak.

Here is the toad 2.0 I hatched last week...

I can really see the buckeye in this one....

I candles eggs last night... this miserable winter is killing the hatches.... I have 11 good turkey eggs and one I am praying is good.

I have 6-7 chicken eggs that appear good...if I recall correctly 2doms and 6 Sussex. Not one legbar has been good yet...

I am afraid my show birds will be too young this year...

And my golden feather membership expired... so I had to buy one... but these ads are killing me.
